Indy Bag Straps - New Take

Post by Wade Egan »

Hello fellow Indy fans!

Just wanted to introduce my gear to those of you out there who are looking for something more from their leather Indy gear. There seem to be a lot of bag strap solutions out there these days that are really just belt leather converted. I believe the original strap was made from a Swiss rifle sling as far as I've read. So, in order to produce not just a screen accurate version but an actual rugged use piece of adventure gear I found and am using a high quality latigo leather similar to the leather used in production of rifle slings and saddle tack. Just like Indy would have used!

Here's a shot:

The buckle is made from a belt buckle which I found to be as close to the Raiders version of the buckle I could find. Then I simple cut the prong off and attach the strap with chicago screws. More buckle styles are available with all the screen versions coming soon.
The leather is a dyed through 8/9oz. latigo and is soft and strong.

Here's a comparison shot with another leading strap:

I can make the strap up to 85" long for those of us who are larger or over 6' tall and as short as you may need.
Check out my strap page for sizing and pricing:

I am currently running a special for all fan site members:
$29.00 for XXL 72" and for a limited time, customers who purchase a bag strap and mention either the Raven or COW will receive a FREE screen accurate KOTCS whip holder! ($19.00 value)
I am working on a new non-slip version whip holder design and will have photos up this week when the prototype is ready to be photographed.
I also sell packages which come complete with the following:
Bag Strap
Whip Holder
Web Belt
Gun Belt

Feel free to email me with questions. I have Magnoli reproductions and a small number of original MK VIIs available as well. You may have seen my eBay auctions for these items. Get an original MK VII before they have all been bought up!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Whip Holders

Post by Wade Egan »

Here is my Standard whip holder which I am including with the straps in the special deal. To size these correctly, I will need your whip length and the diameter of your roll.

I also have a whip holder Deluxe coming which is adjustable and non-slip. I'll post photos once I've completely finished testing it out.

Do you have any pictures of your other offering? If they look as good as the bag strap you're going to make me a very poor man!

Surprisingly, Holt, that LC strap isn't common when compared to the Raider's version. Getting the roller buckle is the first trick, though not so terribly difficult with a touch of imagination. The next step is that bend in the buckle. That extra step doesn't get addressed all that often. Then the final detail of watching the strap width remains. It reminds me of Las Vegas Jones' initial LC offering... mistaken buckle, no bend, and the strap width was just under an inch instead of the proper 20mm (3/4 inch) that it's supposed to be.

Though it's not a complex piece of equipment the LC bag strap doesn't get a lot of attention from folks.

LC strap

Post by Wade Egan »

Yes, the LC strap was beveled by the manufacturer and the others were not. Giving it a 1/16" smaller width which makes finding a buckle very difficult.
I personally like the 1" width for the straps as it tends to look better and has the added extra strength.

For the sake of practicality (both ease of locating the parts and overall strength), over strict screen accuracy, a one-inch wide LC strap wouldn't be a bad thing. I doubt that anyone would actually notice the difference in width unless they were strictly scrutinizing your gear precisely for screen accuracy.

Seems easy enough... just use a one inch roller buckle (prong removed) on a dark brown one-inch wide strap and presto. Easy cheesy. For those who actually put their shoulder bag through daily and/or rigorous use this would be a great idea.

In all likelihood no one would ever notice the discrepancy in width. Who would be most likely to look at your gear? ... ordinary folks that wouldn't know Alden 405s from Rockport Farnums or an Adventurebilt from a Fed IV.

And so I could buy in on a one-inch wide LC bag strap as long as the buckle and rivets still looked correct.
