Cracker?

Hello COW'ers! As you may guess and some of you know, i'm a newbie in the bullwhip subject... after saying that... i was wondering... how do i know when it's a good time to replace the cracker?

Does the whip still crack? Has the sound of the crack changed very significantly? Is there still any fuzz at the end of your cracker? These will give you a good indication. I usually have to change my cracker because the fall breaks off at the knot where the cracker is tied, but it may be that your fall is strong and has worn the cracker out. It's a simple thing to change a cracker then, no need to be nervous about it at all. Takes all of 30 sec. to change. Comes with the territory...

I put on my first new cracker about a month ago when the "fuzz" had worn down almost to the end knot. The old one still cracked that way, but I noticed the new cracker made a much better sound when I got it on. Just my observation. Also, keep your fall well treated with Pecard's and you can untie that knot easily with a awl or similiar pointed tool.

Alfonso, sometimes, depending on the cracker's length, you can undo it and tie it further up to use it one more time, having a new fuzz. It sometimes work, although they seem to last less than the first time.
