Mark VII bag accessory question

Post by Alex »

What is that disk on the side of the bag and where can I find them? Also, does any one know where to find the drain holes for the bottom of the bags? Thanks. Alex.

To my knowledge you can't find them. When Magnoli did his reproduction bags he had to have them custom stamped and on his special limited edition run he had them cast from an original.

The screens (drains) at the bottom were custom made by his people in India as well and if you notice on the Magnoli bag, they don't even go through the canvas!

Sorry I can't be of more help.

No clue in regards to the drain holes.

However, I have found bags that have the same metal disc (spool) on the side at my local military surplus store.

I think the 58 pattern respirator bag for the S6 respirator have them.

If you can find an old Matress, they used to have Vents/drains like these. As for the Disk,When I modified my replica MK-VI,I used the round plunger end of a Caulking Gun.It looks close enough.

Alex... to answer your question as to WHAT the disc is:

On the opposite side of the bag, to the disc, there is a little pocket to tuck a length of string (which should be attached to the bag itself) in to. The bag should be worn on the chest and the string was wrapped around the body/back and then wrapped around the dic to secure it... in order to keep the bag secured to the body/chest.

Does that explanation make sense... I can re-word it if not

I knew what it was used for (as weird as it is) but what is it? Is there an official name of the "thingy"
