Not for a 'dress' hat, but for protection from the elements and water-resistance enhancement, I buy that Silicone spray (in the bright orange can) at Wally World in the camping department.
I sprayed down my gloves (mix of nylon and deer skin), knit hats, as well as several outer gear items (nylon) and a pair of suede boots.
The color gets a bit darker (and the floor gets A LOT slipperier) but the color returns to normal overnight usually.
It does an excellent job, and still allows the fabric to breathe, unlike waxes or most oil treatments. Plus it does not change the color.
Will it work on a felt fedora (fur or otherwise)? Yes. Will there be side affects? I don't know.
I will say that if you try this, there is no way to get it off that I am aware of... (floor was slick for several months afterward!)
