My Fedora

Hey guys!

I just wanted to say hello, I'm new to the forums, but the site is absolutely amazing. I'm a die-hard Indy fan. I think I watched Raiders, Crusade, and Temple this week already haha.

I was looking to get a fedora, as I'm sure a lot of you are and have. I used the dimensions on this site to help me purchase my own.

I noticed a lot of you are buying the Adventurebilt. which is amazing, I have a friend of mine that is waiting to make a purchase of that one soon as well.

I however, at the moderate income went looking for a more modest priced fedora.

I do own an orignal Knoxx Fedora from the 30-40's but it's not the Indiana Jones Fedora.

I tried looking on this site for this place I found. www.themovieshop.com.

They're headed in England, and I found an Indiana Jones Adventurer Fedora for approx 60 dollars I think? and it shipped rather quickly and I'm very impressed. It looks identical to the Indy hats, for such a modest price. I think in retrospect I would have got a better material. I'll try to upload some pictures if anyone is curious of it's quality.

But if this site is no news to this forum, then I apologize, but hopefully it may help some modest fans.

Anyways, I'll be here because I love talking about the films and the props, and I hope I've helped out some people.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard! The best choice you can make is buying an Akubra Federation IV: a beautiful hat, at a very good price.

Thanks!

I'm looking now, I mean 2 is not so bad. Having a little trouble finding a site but I found some pictures and it looks very nice, and prices on other Akubras seem quite modest. I'll keep looking and see what I find, My friend might even be interested in this as well.

Thanks Strones!

Actually I did find it on Hatsdirect. Looks very nice, I really like the Carbon Gray. about 104 + shipping, not too bad. Thanks again!

Is the adventurer you got wool felt? If so, they also have a fur-felt version, which can be bought from hornetshats.com for about $100. I plan on buying one ASAP :)

Welcome Joe!!! About hats there are several moderate income hats around here that are great Indy hats and very well thought of.

The Camptown
The Akubra Federation IV
The Keppler
The Jimmy Pierce or JPD

If I'm missing any please add, but all these hats are excellent and under $200.00.

Several quality hats to choose from, I really like my Akubra Fed IV for the price. With so many choices, it can be a little difficult to choose which one, sort of like picking out which pair of jeans to buy today. Man, it was easy growing up choosing blue jeans, only had Sears and Roebuck back then.

Yeah I got the Wool Felt for 67 dollars, so far the most identical and cheapest one I could find.

I'm def saving up for a nicer quality material next time. I ntoiced they had a fur felt for 120. But I think I'm gonna shoot for the beaverfelt AB. It will take awhile, but i enjoy working towards things in incriments.

I remember the sears pants haha.

Good times.

But absolutely, finding a lot of choices out there, now I need to find a nicely priced bull whip and messenger bag. Gah, love Indy gear haha.

Also just to throw this out there, not to be off-topic and I may throuw this in another forum.

Has anyone realized the KotCS is consistently dupped with the line "Indiana Jones in his latest adventure!" Kind of hinting, 'latest' and not 'last' Possibly another one to come?

I don't know!

Check out thread on CHRISTYS "Adventurer" -- much discussion on this hundred-dollar-hat. Also link to Hornet's Hats in London, cheap & reliable supplier according to reports here.

I don't know that it's the best choice, but it's certainly in the running for first place. That said, I happen to agree with you.

I chose the Fed IV (standard) based on Akubra's reputation for durability. I read many complimentary comments about the hats available from AdventureBilt, Lee Keppler, Christys, Herbert Johnson, Jimmy Pierce, etc., and, while their hats may be made from higher quality felts and/or look more like the hat Ford wore in a particular scene, I saw very few posts that mentioned their durability. On the other hand, for the Fed IV I saw at least one post in each thread that mentioned their toughness and ability to withstand any reasonable amount of abuse.

Granted, people buy hats for various reasons, and my comments above were not intended to dismiss, discount, or demean the quality of the hats available from any of these fine manufacturers. I wanted a hat that I'd still be wearing when I'm old and gray (well, older and grayer, anyway) and would take any punishment I could dish out, so for me the Fed IV was the obvious choice; the fact that it looks just like the hats Ford wore in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (IMO) is just icing on the cake.
