Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I've been a long, long time lurker here off and on and thought I'd just join and get it over with.
I don't really have too much gear. Basically just a couple of bags, one of which I bought off of someone here a few years ago. Actually its the canadian woods bag on the bag page in the gear section. So, who sold that to me??
My main fascination is with the famous hat. I've got Stetson that I bought a few years ago that has gotten some major taper. I just received 2 Fed IV hats (moonstone and charcoal) that I absolutely love, but definitely need some helping in the bashing department.
My next purchase will be the brown fedora. I've been reading a lot about the different hats on here (JPD, Keppler, Mag, Adventurebilts and Peterbros.)
They all look pretty nice, but I think my favorite is the Mag HJ, but that could be having the HJ. Adventurebilt, although nice hats, the CS doesn't do it for me. Keppler, JP Designs and Peterbros. are nice hats, but I just keep thinking the Mag HJ. I've heard (read) that the Mag HJ doesn't hold up very well in weather conditions, but I'm not a going on any major adventures.
Hmm decisions, decisions

Anyway, it is nice to finally be a member here and I look forward to having a great time.

Adventurebilt, although nice hats, the CS doesn't do it for me.
Keep in mind that Adventurebilt originally became famous for their fantastic Raiders block, so most of the hats ordered from them aren't CS hats. Just sayin'... :junior: -M

Welcome to COW, NCIndy! Whereabouts in NC do you live. You wouldn't happen to be anywhere near Mt. Holly would you?

Welcome aboard NC! "Come for the gear, stay for the people". You'll find a lot of collective knowledge here that folks are very willing to share.
Enjoy your stay! :D You have listed some great hats there, and like Mulceber said, AB does have a great Raiders block, which I might add that Camptown also now has permission from AB to use. So you have the choice of some fantastic products out there. So many choices.
Again, welcome!

Cheers!

Dan

In case you haven't read the following tidbits, here's Welcome Present;

HJ's in general are more of a dress hat than a foul-weather or adventure hat. If ANY HJ will hold up, it will be the Mag/HJ.

HOWEVER; since the Magnoli HJ is put together and blocked by Adventurebilt, you can get the sturdiest hat in the biz with the exact same shape! AB doesn't have to be CS at all. In fact, Fedora himself prefers the Raiders, with the tight pinch and the turn, two things he has mastered.

Good luck deciding.

Thanks for the nice welcomes and info everyone. It's been a lot of fun reading and learning about the gear on here.

Indianabogart, I'm in western NC near Asheville (aka freak city)

I know exactly where you are talking about. My family has a house in Black Mountain, so were up near Asheville quite often. It's a beautiful place, but yeah, like you said, freak city.

The one good thing about living near Freak City is that a person can walk around with a Indy hat on and no one will give you odd looks! :D
