I noticed something about my broken in ec whip.the plaiting at the point, just before the fall, is a little loose. is that going to be a problem down the road? should I get it repaired?

I would have em tightened up some.
The strenth comes from the combined strength of the strands. If they are too loose you will loose that strength and the tip of your whip will only be as good as the weakest strand.
Should be a very inexpensive fix.

Who could I send it to.Anyone in southern california who would be able to repair the whip?

This is not something you want to let go too long, for the reasons mentioned. Especially if there is a lot of space in the gaps of the loose plaiting.

This is another maintenance project you could do yourself though, as your just undoing the end a few inches down and re-plaiting them tightly then re attaching the fall. It’s covered in Mike Murphy’s Whip maintenance DVD and possibly on Bernie’s you tube videos as well, I’d have to double check to be sure though.

I don’t know of anyone in southern California that could do it for you, off hand anyway, but If you don’t feel comfortable in doing it yourself and that’s totally understandable if you don’t. I’d send it off to Joe Strain at Northernwhipco.com or Paul Nolan at Midwestwhips.com both can do the repair quick and inexpensively and have the whip back to you, better then new in no time.

I have an EC Whip that had the same issue. I sent it to Joe like a year ago and he did a great job on cleaning it up and tightening it. It's still tight towards the end.

Don't know about Paul.

Get us a photo of the repair area as well and a whole shot of the entire whip.
I agree, when my EC whip was repaired by him, the entire movement felt different, but excellent.

From what I can see, that does look so much better. Did you ask him to clean up the whole whip too? When I did, it did feel like a whole different whip.

The color of that whip is wonderful. Baby it and it will last!
