I am considering ordering a new whip from EC, if I can't get a used one. How do you determine what size is right for you? I have NEVER cracked a whip before and I am 5'6". I thought an 8 foot is about right.............anyone have any idea? PLEASE HELP!

My 8ft is the best whip I have ever had, my skill level has shot through the roof, it's just awsome. I cracked for 2 hours Saturday it's so much fun.

I was told when ordering my whip from Bernie that either a 6ft or an 8ft would be best for a beginner. He leaned me towards the 8ft, so thats what I got. Just so you know I am 5'7" so we have a similar height.

I started on a 10 ft bullwhip, an 8ft is easy to handle and I have found that I can do more cracks with it because of that fact. I would still like to get a 10ft from Jim one of these days, but an 8ft is a nice one.

hmmmm.
I just ordered a 10' from EC.
at first I thought of getting a 8' first,
learn how to use it then get a 10'.
after much thought, I realized I would only buy
one whip. So I got the 10 footer.
At 5'7", I think I'm gonna be wearing a helmet or something.... hahahha

Jim at EC recommended the 8ft for me. I LOVE Josh's whip and want one the same! I thought 8 would be short, but I am learning otherwise.
As long as I don't cut off my head, I will most likely get into the whole cracking thing.
Where do you learn to crack it?

I think an eight footer works best. If you think it's too short, you can just put a three foot fall on it

With 8 footer you are able to do mostly everything.
Its not too long for multiple cracking but long enough for wraps too.
My opinion is that you can "force" shorter whip more easily to do what you want it to do.
This may however mean that you learn to do cracking wrong way because you are able to get it crack despite you make it "wrong".
However longer whip will punish you at once if you do not make right moves!
It is almost as easy to crack longer whip than shorter but you have to give longer whip some more time to go through air than shorter does.
This surprises many beginners after short whip.
They try to force the whip when they should "persuade" it!

Thanks for everyones advice. I'm going for the 8 foot one. Now I have to wait until June to get it
I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

You made the right choice, I love the 8 foot length. It is versatile in it's ability to crack easly and control but still gives you the Indy whip feel. The 10's and 12's are just too long for me to properly control and I have been at it for some time.
My sons got a 6 footer for Christmas and I have had alot of fun with it, as well. It cracks loud, is very quick and accurate. For pure whiping it may be even better that the 8. However, it would probably be too short on your belt.
Good luck, let us know when you get it.
Thanks

Sorry to take so long on the whips. I wish I could get them out sooner but my waiting list has a lot of orders on it, and I still work a regular day job which only leaves me a few hours at night and the weekends to make whips. But I will get them to you as quickly as possible.
Regards,
Jim

CJ, Hopefully my BOOTS!
Jim, no rush on the whip. I had people wait up to 8 month for my lightsabers. If you have a reputation for quality (and you do), people don't mind waiting. Besides, it's my present to myself and my Birthday isn't till June anyways
The timing is good for me

The wait will be well worth it. Jim is a total pleasure to do business with and really aims to please his buyers.
