So after all the threads about blocks, blockmaking, and home-reblocks I decided to take the plunge. I made a plaster block based on another thread and I think it turned out okay. As you'll see from the pictures, it's not very smooth. This is mainly because I had to shave it down one whole hat size after the first try and I just gave up on making it smooth so I slapped some spraypaint on it and kept going. As far as the reblock goes, this also took two tries. The first time I tried to leave the ribbon and sweat on the hat and that just didn't happen. So after some serious consideration, I went ahead and removed them both and did a full reblock. This took alot of steaming and stretching and as you can see in the one picture, a hole did develop from the perforations created by the machine stitching (BendingOak gave me a fair warning, so I can only blame myself). It wasn't a big deal though, because I was going to absorb some brim into the crown anyway so it would end up being hidden by the ribbon. Speaking of the ribbon, that's just some stock black ribbon from walmart and the bow I made myself (quite proud of that one!) Anyway, I think the hat looks similar to the way it did before but now it has better "humps", which I've always wanted. Well, enjoy the pics and please give some opinions!

Wow. That's a great looking DP. You should talk Disney into letting you re-block their hats before they sell those crappy things to unsuspecting non-gearheads who think they're getting an "Indy hat".

Fantastic hat!

Here's a shot I just took that better represents what I see when I look at the hat. The other pics don't seem to do it justice.

You know, that's basically what I did since I had to remove the sweatband and the ribbon. Once I wet and steamed it, it was just a big hunk of felt so I guess starting from scratch wouldn't be that different. After this little experience, I'm seriously considering making a hat from start to finish. You know what I really want to do though? I want to find an old thrift store cowboy hat with a big brim and totally "Indy" the thing out. Anyway, thanks for the kind words everyone!

Oh, and yes it is fur. I don't think I could work my magic quite as well with wool

DeLorean, unless you plan on giving everyone a ride, I think you're gonna have to resize your avatar...
