Not sure...Wested 42 or 44

Hi guys!

I am just new here and would like some advice before i order my standard Raiders off the shelf jacket from Wested.
I am about 5ft 8 inches and of average size build. I have measured around my chest a little loosely and could either be a size 42 or 44.
I`m Just wondering if anyone here is of the same description as me, and could give me advice on which size to go for? I don`t want the jacket too tight or too big, and don`t really want to have to send it back and exchange it.

If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

A wested 44 will most likely be too large. I´m 5´11´´ 185 lbs and a 44 is on the big size for me.

Well, if you're going after OTR, it's pretty much a crapshoot......best bet would be to order a custom jacket and get your measurements taken by a professional.

My 2¢.

For the OTR Raiders it fits pretty to form. If you are over 5' 10" it may be short.

For the Specials, they suit slimmer taller frames better. Not so good for short stocky folk.

If you are ordering custom, err sightly on the side of over rather than under sizing. You can pull of a jacket that is fractionally big, but not if it is too small.

If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you are the EXACT same size, shape, weight, height, girth, ext
as someone else, you CAN'T go by what someone else wears, just
because they may have the same size chest as you.

You should go and get yourself measured by a tailor, and get your
height, waist, sleeve length, neck, shoulders and back measured in
order to get a proper fitting jacket for YOU.

Someone may have the same size chest as you, such as myself, but I
am 6'-1" and weigh 190 pounds, and I can guarantee that a jacket that
will fit me WILL NOT fit you the same way.

You are over 5 inches shorter than me, and with a 44 inch chest, you
may require a jacket that is a "short" size because of the back length
and sleeve length YOU need.

I am bordering on a "tall" size, and my jackets will be WAY too long on
you. But the chest might fit.

Get the picture?

One thing you can do is to take a jacket that you already own, and that
you like the way it fits you, and you can do the following:

Zip the jacket up, and lay it flat on your bed, with the chest/zipper
facing UP.

Then, measure it across the chest from one armpit seam to the other.
Write this number down.

Measure it from the shoulder seam, down the OUTSIDE of the sleeve,
all the way down to the very end of the cuff. Write this number down.

Turn the jacket over, and measure it from the base of the collar (where
the collar and back come together and form the seam) and measure it
straight down the back, to the very bottom. Write this number down.

Now, compare these numbers to the Wested website where they have
their jacket specs posted.

This should give you an idea of what size Wested will fit YOU best once you
compare the measurements to the jacket you already own.

I measured a 42 chest and ordered a custom Wested. The jacket arrived with a 42 tag in it and it fits me just fine. I'm 5 ft 10 in, about 170 lbs.

My Wested custom is a 42 and it is roomier in the chest than my TN 44.

One other thing you might consider is,I'm not sure if you metnioned how old you are.If your in teens,or 20's you can still grow. are you into weights that can be anothor factor too. just an fyi.hope this helps.

Sorry guys.....i`m 34. I actually went to a department store yesterday and tried on a couple of suit jackets. I told the shop assistant that i was ordering a jacket from overseas and wasn`t sure of my size, so he measured me as being a 42, then i tried that size and the sleeves felt a little short and when i lifted my arms it was pulling and felt pretty tight. I then tried the 44 and it felt more comfortable. The assistant thought i could get away with either size.
So i`ve decided to order the 44 from Wested, i`m sure it will be fine and better to be slightly bigger than too small, i`m just worried that when i try to zip it up that it will feel too tight.

Sounds like you made the right choice. Whenever I try on a jacket, the first thing I do is reach in front of me as though I were holding the steering wheel on my truck; if the shoulders are too tight and/or the sleeves ride halfway up my forearms, it's too small. A little extra roominess might look and feel odd if you're only wearing a tee shirt under it, but it definitely comes in handy when you want to wear a sweatshirt or sweater for extra warmth.

As far as it feeling tight when zipped, if you carry extra weight around your midsection (i.e., if your belly is bigger than your chest) it might be advisable to include this measurement when you order your jacket. If you have a slim build, it won't be a problem.

There`s nothing worse than sitting down or driving with a jacket on that pulls your sleeves in like crazy.....so uncomfortable! I like things to be just right.

Hi,

I've been lurking for quite some times and now I've just registering. After reading a lot on COW, I decided to order a custom LC jacket in Novapelle from Wested. But it doesn't fit me, it was too big for me, here two photos...

I completed the order form minus the size jacket, I also gave the shoulder to shoulder length and told them I was a woman. When I measure the jacket, it wasn't the lengths I gave them.
So I sent it back. When they received the jacket, Wested told me it was the measurements I gave them so I think it was a misunderstanding on both part. So I send them a photo of me and put the measurements on it.
Now Wested is making a new jacket for me.

Gemma has been really great about everythings. So I hope this time it will fit me.

I ordered the 40 OTR ROTLA lamb and after getting it wet it was too small in the sleeves. If I had gone with a 42, which my wife, mother, and father, suggested, I probably wouldn't be getting ready to order another jacket.

I actually wish this thread had started before I ordered mine as it seems everyone that is approx. my size 5' 10" 165 lbs. ordered a 42 R.

I asked Wested if we could change the jacket style and since they were making a new one they agreed to do a CS jacket, in Novapelle.

Okay, so I'm wondering about the wested sizing. I wear a 34-35 inch sleeve in dress shirts. How would I compare? Can anyone give me an idea?

I'm guessing that the size they refer to is from the seam down, but I really don't know how to figure it.

Wested's requested sleeve measurement is from the cuff to the top of the seam where the sleeve attaches to the body of the jacket; it does not include the measurement from the collar to the shoulder.

I'm going to bug everyone again, but which capacity I'll need to put on my jacket (I think, I have to put at least 2 coats of Pecard ??)
