US Wings VIP vs. Goat comparison

Can anyone compare the two...does anyone have both? The moo-cow VIP and the Goat look pretty similar, I understand that Goat is tougher than the cowhide VIP, but the cow is thicker leather...? -Not that I plan to be drug under a truck. My Disney World-Cooper Cow held up perfect the 14 years I owned it and distressed ever so beautifully. I'm looking for an everyday Fall thru Spring jacket.
The Goat goes for $318, the VIP is $362, (long size) -the Goat doesn't say what kind of lining it has, the VIP is the silky nylon.
Any info between the two appreciated! I searched and found the usual goat hide vs lamb vs armadillo etc, and sizing issue discussions, but no real good info on these two in particular.

I used to have a USW VIP cowhide before returning it due to bad fit. The cowhide leather is thicker than goat and is usually better for colder temps. However, you could just buy a goat and wear a sweater underneath when it really gets cold. I have a Wested washed goat and it's quite thin....great for cool nights in the summer/spring.

I think I'm about to order the USW goat to go with my USW vintage cowhide. I can say the cow is quite thick yet easy to wear. The reason I want a goat as well is I'll use the cow more in the cold weather (I'm in the north east so that's much of the time) and would like the lighter goat as a warmer weather jacket. Plus there's a different look.
But, I couldn't imagine the cow not being tough enough for all but the heavest use - I don't think the difference in "toughness" between the two would be hauge.
I like the 100% cotton lining for a cold weather coat you might find yourself sweating in.

The VIP cowhide is different than the standard Wings cowhide.
It's sourced from France, and is the belly hide from the cow. Most jacket companies make their cowhide jackets from the back of the steer. This is not, and that's why it's softer and has no scars, as it's from the underbelly of the animal.
It's a LOT heavier than the goatskin, but you're right...it feels and looks just like goatskin.
A lot of folks have claimed the Wings goatskin has a more 'rubbery' feel than most goatskins. I haven't experienced that with the ones I've handled. I do own a Wings VIP cowhide, and highly recommend it for a heavy winter coat. That's what I have used mine for, and have weathered heavy snow storms with no problems at all.

I bought a wings Indy goat, but I returned it due to a bad fit,and it was too dark for my liking. It was a very well made jacket. If you order one my sugestion if you want a more tailored look and not bulky, order one size down from your normal size.

thanks for the suggestion- I'm actually wanting a Wings
because of the 'bulkier' factor! I have my custom LC Wested pony skin that is a tailored to me; I'm wanting a looser fit jacket I can wear layers under this winter.
-But I don't want a dark, dark brown either.

I see a lot of people talking about the fit of USW and here's my take. I'm 5'11" and lift/run 4 or 5 days a week. I have fairly large arms and upper body and a smaller waist. On me, the USW fits very well as it seems roomier in the arms/upper body yet smaller in the torso area. I look the look very much so maybe I'm lucky. (Of course this is the vintage cow and goat may be slightly different.)
In comparison, the Wested I had fit yet was tight in the arms (right at the shoulder,) acceptable in the chest and ok in the torso. Because of the fit of the arms, my movement felt restricted. It felt like if I flexed the arm might have ripped. The jacket was also much lighter and more like a fashion jacket, so again that makes a difference.
Many people tend to have smaller chests yet are slightly bigger around the rear end/stomach, so that may be why the comments about fit of the USW. This is simply a result of when people carry a little extra weight it tends to be put on lower down and not in the chest.
If it were me, I'd order your size then exchange in needed. If ordering by phone the sales people are attentive and should be able to guide you as to fit.
People will tell you not to tear off the tags until you're sure you want the jacket. (If you do take them off, I believe they will take the jacket back but charge a restocking fee.) The tag thing is an excellent policy and keeps people honest, in my opinion. I'm sure there are people out there who order a $400 jacket, wear it to a party or play dress up then send it back. The tag thing protects the next person in line who may be getting that returned jacket!

Hi -- No one answered his other question: How does the lining of the VIP Cowhide differ from the lining in the USW Goat? Any thoughts out there?

The goat has the nylon linning now.it was another reason why I returned my wings jacket. The web site has the orangepoly/cotton linning in the picture I liked it better. When the jacket came it was black nylon. Hope this helps.
