Hi there - sorry about the quality of these pics but it started to rain just as i was about to take some outdoor shots. This is my new Authentic Goatskin Temple delivered yesterday...
I'll try to get some better ones when the weather improves!

Looks pretty cool. The close-up shows the grain.....which looks great for my taste. I agree withthe other guys it is hard to gauge the color. We would get a much better idea of the cut and fit if you were in the jacket. We don't have any pictures of Ford's jacket laying flat on the ground.
At any rate congrats on the new jacket.

Hi, sorry first chance I've had to post since I put the pics on. When I first got the jacket my girlfriend commented on how it looked grey-brown (with no prior information on how original goatskin seemed to), but being in England I think it was probably just the clouds reflecting...after a couple of days of (fairly intense) wear any greyish hint has well and truly gone leaving a rich brown. I haven't physically seen any other Westeds so I have nothing to compare it with, but the leather is very supple and doesn't complain when I try to move about in it. I haven't got access to my camera for a couple of days, will post better colour-gaugeing pics when I get it back!
Incidentally the grain close-ups with the coin are with a pound coin, which measures approx 7/8" in diameter.

I received my Raiders Wested yesterday and what surprised me is the leather. We have had Flightsuits goatskin and have U.S. Wings goat in our household. Now, we have Wested goat. Despite the buttery soft Wings goatskin, I prefer the Wested goatskin. Wested goat is nowhere near as thick as an Expo and yet it doesn't feel quite as thin as my son's Lil' Indy goatskin.LJHood wrote:Can you describe the leather for us? The pictures do not quite do it justice. I have noticed on the dark brown goat, the leather has a hrey tint to it. How does the authentic goat compare? Is it a true brown? How much lighter do you think it is that the dark brown goat?
In addition, when I had the FS goat and deerskins for the comparison photos, they weighed the same. To pick up the Wested and the FS deer at the same time, one immediately notices a difference in the weight. the Wested is much lighter and I like it that way.
The distinct pebble grain of goatskin is visible and resembles other goatskins I've handled.
The chrome goat Expo I had was not stiff as a board as I've heard some vegetable goat jackets can be. However, perhaps due to thickness, it never got the drape I was looking for. In fact, the pre-mod lambskin Expo I had seemed thicker than the new authentic Wested goat and it didn't drape the way I had expected. Obviously, I am quite pleased with the Wested goatskin.
As for color, it is the same as the seal chrome goat I had from Flightsuits. Technically, it is a bit darker than a true seal coloring. In fact, when I think of "seal" I think of the color of the seal deerskin Expo, which is a bit lighter when I lay these two jackets side by side. Please see the following link for a similar comparison:

Keep in mind that Peter doesn't market the authentic colored goat or lambskin as "seal." These are considered "authentic" and I think Peter has a bead on the color, hands down. I see no traces of grey anywhere and the color appears to be uniform over the entire jacket.
Well, in my opinion, with the jacket I have, I believe Peter has sourced authentic-colored goatskin that will continue to please and protect Indyfans for many years to come. Thank you Mr. Botwright!
