Just wondering if anyone has a pair of these, and how they stack up when compared to the Aldens? My Aldens are extremely comfortable, but the leather is so thin that mine have been punctured (a half inch slit) just by working in the yard with them.

I think that Aldens are really made more for show than to be an everyday, hard-working shoe. (I find it hard to believe that Aldens, in real life, would survive the same type of punishment that Harrison dished out in the films). But at the same time, for a $300+ shoe, I expect better.

I've had my Magnoli boots for about a month now. I've been impressed thus far. I got mine with treaded soles for traction & toughness, and they've served me well. I wear them everyday to work. They're comfortable on the inside, yet tough on the outside (just as I requested). They're beautiful boots. Almost too beautiful. I'm still working on "distressing" them, though I plan to do it naturally over time. I know some others have been disappointed with their boots, but I have been very satisfied with mine.

I'm guessing that nothing that Indy wears "would survive the same type of punishment that Harrison dished out in the films." There are many members here who have worn Alden 405's for years and spoken highly of their durability, (with pictures as proof), so I believe it's a stretch to say that they are "more for show". Mine have been worn daily through a Winnipeg winter with some of the harshest conditions for footwear. The salt on our roads and sidewalks is a shoe killer. Mine have held up great and have not been babied, but it's still early for a long term review. Others have had great experiences over the long haul.

Considering that the Aldens worn by Indy were intended as custom made orthopedic work boots, I'd venture to say they are not just for show. They come from a different time, and we might be tempted to expect them to perform like the hefty work boots of today. Plus, the simple fact remains that every 5 years the quality of just about everything drops a notch or two. So, maybe they ain't what they used to be, but what is.

That said, I 'd like to go on record as saying that $300 for a pair of shoes that will only make me happy when they get dirty and roughed up is an INSANE concept to me. If I ever spend that much on shoes, they will be babied so much that my grandchildren's grandchildren will be able to wear them!

I realize Aldens are not made to withstand the rigors most work boots of today are made to face. I bought them as a "light duty" boot (I'm obsessed with work boots the way a lot of you guys are obsessed with Ingy gear.. I have tons of pairs). I do carpentry jobs for friends and family and they work just fine for that. I tore a hole in mine by walking past my pick-axe (one end is sharpened.. similar to a large adze) and getting my foot caught on it. Ripped a hole clear through (the 405s were three days old!!!)

Anyway, just curious as to the "toughness" of Magnoli's Adventure Boots. My Aldens are amazingly comfortable... but if I ever dragged behind a truck in them my toes would end up bloody stubbs!
