Im not getting antsy, just curious
I ordered two Mag HJ's a month ago, Indy Magnoli told me I would have the goods in two months.
Im thrilled FEDORA does the work on this piece, as he always boasts his passion for the Raiders Look.
For those of you who just got your Mag HJ/....AB

Thanks!!

Better hope it doesn't arrive until Labor Day. That hat might be able to survive the Sahara, but August in New York could kill it.

I ordered mine last year in Aug and got it October. Around 2 to 2 1/2 months for me. Well worth it. Mine is pictured in my avatar at left.
Just took mine fishing in Ontario, Cananda and it held up great. Didn't beat it up, or wear it in the rain, just when the weather suited. Almost had it a year and it looks as good as the day I got it.
Cheers,

Does anyone know of a thread with a lot of pics of Magnoli HJ's? I recently ordered and need some visuals to tide me over. If there is no thread let's start one!
Thanks!

See the thread "Magnoli Herbert Johnson Fedora: PHOTOS!" on page 1 of the Vendor Announcements section for info & photos. There are lots of other threads too, but this was one of the first and most informative.

If it looks anything like mine, it will be-- and I had to wait about 5 months. Don't think it's taking that long now, though.

Yojimbo, I had ordered my Mag/HJ/AB late July of 08 and it arrived on my doorstep mid February 09. So all in all it took about seven months. I think the wait time also has a lot to do with the amount of hat bodies that are in stock for specific sizes. When I ordered mine they were running low on the larger hat bodies, therefore the longer wait time. Hope this helps.

Have just been told eight months by Magnoli, but I figured I'd live with it, as it will allow me to have a backup hat.

I ordered my HJ Magnoli on Sept 2nd 2008, it arrived April 17th 2009. After a 7 month wait I recieved the wrong style hat and a hat with a poorly cut brim. I am very unimpressed and quite upset by this. I have contacted both Steve and Tony and I have not heard a word from them about rectifying the situation.

I will say that I ordered a Magnoli because of the complete lack of response to e-mails I sent requesting information from hatters prominently and repeatedly mentioned here. Indy Magnoli was one of only two who responded, so Magnoli got my business. I hope that your situation is an exception, and that they'll fix it for you in short order.

A poorly cut brim sounds more like the work of Richard Swales than Steve; the brim on my Magnoli was cut perfectly.
I would send the hat back with delivery confirmation, either for refund or replacement. It is an expensive hat and you should expect to receive exactly what you paid for.
I have read that Steve is phasing out the Magnolis, and perhaps yours was one that slipped through the cracks before the problems were detected. You don't find too many complaints about Steve's (or Magnoli's) work or customer service here, and unless the situation has changed suddenly and drastically, you should find a quick and easy resolution for your problems.

Poor cut brim does not sound like Steve at all. Steve does top notch work. Getting an e-mail to him, thats another story. He is hit with a truck load of e-mail daily.

Well Steve and IndyMagnoli have both contacted me about the hat, I still do not understand how my request for a Raiders hat turned into a TOD. Both parties want to get this corrected but I will not wait another 7 months. Here are a few pictures. Picture 1 is the hat straight out of the box.

Scot2525, if both Magnoli and Steve have said that they will fix the problem then that is what they will do. And don't worry about having to wait another seven months. I had a problem with my hat, I sent it back and a new one was sitting on my doorstep in about three weeks. I agree that if you are not happy with the hat then you should send it back, but Magnoli and Steve will take good care of you!

It might just be the angles, but I do think there is something irregular about that brim. However, that hat in no way is a Temple of Doom hat. You got what you ordered. That is one of the best looking Raiders hats I've seen. As soon as you get the brim fixed, that will be a killer hat. You can already see how much better that hat looks than the Federation. Also, since both Magnoli and Steve have contacted you and said they would rectify the problem, I don't think it would be fair to talk about this openly until you get the hat back.

Yes, the brims are irregular. I use the template from the ADMINS HJ he got from Lee, that Swales did the cut on. Anyone who has seen the Swales cut knows he wasn't real picky about his hand cuts. I replicate his cuts on the HJs, using that template. Except, he had one side 3 /16ths shorter than the other. I correct that, but everything else is as you would have recieved from the man himself.
The plan with these HJs was to replicate the Raiders fedora, made by Swales, pimples and all. It is just as easy to NOT replicate it, and I have never had a complaint until now. But, I think many of the HJ customers already had seen, or owned a Swales HJ and don't notice it as much. Fedora

Oh, I am waiting on a new order of brown hats from HJ. They must have had a hold up and I am out of bodies currently, except for the gray ones. As soon as they get here, I will get the HJ going out the door again. Only about 15 hats left to make. Fedora

And Steve knows what he's doing here. My hat has been compaired to a couple of Swales HJ's and is a fantastic example of Steve's passion to nail the Raiders look. Of course the brim dimentions are where comparisons to old HJ's ends as those old hats can't mesure up to the quality of workmanship in Steve's handmade Magnoli HJ.

The hat is safely on its way back to Mr. Delk for a refund. The fedora I ordered was not the fedora I recieved and Steve and Tony will confirm this.

I don't understand. I thought you ordered a Raiders fedora. You received one. I think there were some rough spots around the brim, but that is fixable and I believe Steve said he owuld fix it. I'm not sure why you would want a refund. Just trying to understand is all.

Not trying to gang up on you, but I am a little confused, too. The hat looks great in your photos-- certainly better than I expected from your first description of it-- and its value as a collector's item will only increase once Steve stops making them.
You could probably sell it for more than it cost you, even with the minor problems you have perceived. But if Steve and Magnoli both have promised to fix it for you, I'm sure they could do it.
It's ultimately your money and your decision, though, so at least it's good to know you are getting a resolution you desire.

I have a question off topic...is Steve stilll shipping the hats with cylinder made of oaktag taped inside the center of the box to hold hat in place during shipping?...from some of the recent photos of AB arrivals posted in the box it appears the hat is just placed upside down in the box and shipped without the holder...Please let me know
Thanks

Yeah he still sends it with the oaktag, my Mags/AB/HJ came with it. I think sometimes because of the angle of the photograph it just looks like the oaktag isn't in there, the brim of the hat hides it very well.

Looks kind of like a Crystal Skull hat to me, would make a decent raiders with a somewhat tighter pinch and a turn.

Judging from the position of the bow it is turned. Just looks like a Raiders which had the pinch come out with shipping, kind of what hapened to Mitch's hat after some months of wear:
(Mitch, If you mind me posting this pic let me know and I'll take it down)
This is easily fixable, but as the hat is being sent back it's a moot point realy.

Steve did recieve the hat back safely and Indy Magnoli processed my refund on Tuesday of this week. The communication from both parties was excellent during the return of the hat.
Dr. Ulloa the hat I recieved was not a Raiders fedora, it was a TOD fedora, that is what Steve wrote under the sweat, and Steve and Tony both told me that was what they had my order down as. I never understood how this occured until I went back and looked at all my email communications with Tony regarding the hat. In the very first email I sent to Tony, Aug. 08, before completing the order I sent a picture from Todd's costume website asking Tony/Steve if they could do the Raiders "Dress" style for the fedora as I didn't want the fedora to emulate a specific scene from Raiders. Tony said yes and I then completed the order for the hat on Sept. 2, 08. I believe what happened was Todd's dress style ended up turning into a TOD style fedora which is what I ended up with.
I could have lived with the cut on the brim as the "warts" were on the back of the hat or could have been easily fixed with some sanding but the fedora I recieved wasn't the "Holy Grail" I was looking for. I told Steve that possibly in the future I would order a fedora directly from him and hopefully then I will recieve a fedora that truly is a Raider.

I'm sorry friend, but the pics you posted look like a Raiders hat with a relaxed pinch. Tightening thte pinch would have yielded more of the Raiders look you may have wanted. It may say TOD on the inside of the sweat, but that hat screams Raiders to me. How can you even compare that to the tapered hats we see in Temple of Doom? The only hat that has little or no taper in the whole film is the suspension bridge hat and that is definately not creased like that. In my opinion, you should have kept the hat and have Steve fix the brim for you becuase what you had was a beautiful Raiders HJ handmade by Steve. But if your happy this way that is all that matters. Its not my hat.

The hat "as is" only vaguely looks like a Raiders at best, it doesn't look that much like a TOD to me either.
