Are any vendors out there able to make a custom, larger size of satchel in an approximate MkVII style?

I'd like one that is 1" wider and 1/2" higher so I can carry my bullwhip in it. I wouldn't need the centre divider or the little pocket at the top, or even the side disc and brass holes underneath.

I'd use an easily-obtainable field satchel from a local store but they aren't very well made, and also look like women's handbags

I'm not a vendor, just going to make a quick suggestion, you COULD make your own..
I made a smaller one for my nephew and I still have enough material left to make several more (in that size.. only a couple if normal sized)

BTW I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything by saying you could do it yourself I'm just saying that it could be a more affordable alternative and in case you weren't able to find that style of bag at that size you could still have one..

Oh, I fully agree with you. That is a very good suggestion, but although I can make a whip from roohide I baulk at anything to do with using a sewing machine, as I've always had troubles with learning how to do it

I think I need to find someone around where I live who can teach me how to sew cloth. Could a bag be sewn by hand? I could probably manage that.

You could sew it by hand, but it would take about 16 times longer and the stiching wouldn't be very uniform. I prefer a machine to do that kind of stuff.

I'm signed up to take a beginning sewing class when the local community college classes begin again for their Fall semester. My girlfriend and I were planning to take it together and hopefully we could share using her one machine between us. But now it looks like she won't make the Fall semester and wants us to bump the class into the Spring semester. I'd be interested in making a bag, but I can't promise professional results just yet. When you pay for a professional service, you are paying for experience and knowledge, which is something I hope to get with the class. I won't be calling myself a pro, though, as that type of talent is a ways off.

Sounds great. When you're ready to make a bag I'd be interested. I'm really keen for a slightly larger size (not much bigger).

Maybe I should take one of those courses too. Sounds like fun.

i had this idea a while back but kinda gave up on it... great idea tho

I used to carry a bullwhip around in a field bag sometimes when I was a kid. I was pretty quick at getting it out, too. I had a technique where I would grab the bottom of the bag with my left hand while reaching for the whip with my right.

I would start with my back to the target, whip coiled in the bag, then spin around as I unfurled the whip and then cracked the whip at the target, which was usually a bottle. By holding the bottom corner of the bag I was able to get the whip out just as fast as if it was coiled on my belt. I used a bag similar to a MkVII, common in army surplus stores, but ever so slightly larger than my current Magnoli.
