I've been prowling this site for a while, looking for information about getting a new hat. I have a DP right now and I really want to upgrade and I've decided on the Federation IV. The delimma I am facing is about the bash I want. I was so adamant about getting a raiders bash but now the CS and the TOD bash is growing on me. My question is that there are a lot of tutorials about raiders bashing but are there any out there for the CS and TOD? Any information would help.

Rebash your DP to tod.. do your fed as raiders.

A TOD bash is very easy to do. After putting in the center dent, you then pinch in a very shallow crease. There's nothing that can't be done over and over until you get the exact look you want.

The CS specs as given by Fedora are 4 3/4 high in front, 4 1/4 in back, side creases go back 4 1/2 or 5 inches.

You shouldn't have any problem with TOD or CS; Raiders is a little trickier as well as being the most popular style, and that's why there are all those tutorials. It's also harder to change a Raiders bash into another style because of that sharp front crease. I have noticed that TOD has been getting more popular lately, and I've always liked that style myself-- sort of a guilty pleasure, I guess.

I've found the CS bash to be as relaxed in the front as the LC bash, but a bit sharper in the back, like a Raiders bash. You'll definitely want a tall straight crown for it, though, so save your Fed for that. DP makes a decent ToD hat, but not much else.

I was looking at some reference pics and (correct me if I'm wrong) the CS hat looks like kind of a hybrid between the Raiders (with its stovepipe sides) and TOD with its shallow bashes and looser pinch. Also lack of a "turn." How does one get the shallow side bashes like in CS? The raiders tutorial had kind of a pinching action on the inside while pushing with your thumb from the outside.

The CS bash is actually deeper than for most scenes in TOD, making the stovepipe appear slightly more tapered from the sides. You don't have to crease either style tightly, though, esp. TOD, for which you just need a light pinching motion and don't push the creases too far back. For CS, just use a ruler until you are 4 1/2 or 5 inches back with the side creases, and leave the bottom part of the front pinch loose while narrowing the top part.

Go with a TOD bash on your DP. It'll look more screen accurate than a CS bash because to get the CS bash right, or at least close, you'd have to get a diferrent hat, like the FedIV would do.

No, it's approximately halfway back on both sides. It may help you to use the "Crystal Skull Hat Reference Pics" thread in this section as a visual aid.

It seems that in the back of the CS hat the birm is kinda of bent up. Has anyone tried that? Also how do you get the swoop of the brim using your hands? Maybe I'm obsessing too much about detail here but I really don't want to screw this up.
