Help buying a Wested... Please advise

Post by lovemyfedora »

Ok all, this is my first post. I recently purchased a Raiders Lambskin jacket on ebay in a size 44 R. It seemed to fit ok, just a bit short. I am fairly tall (6' 1") and the bottom front of the jacket landed at my waist. So my question for all you experts is, is the LC/CS jacket normally longer in the same size? I am placing an order for a 46R of the LC/CS washed goat in hopes that it is much longer.

I have attempted to get this information from Wested directly, but their replies to my emails have been short and unclear. Hopefully you folks can help me.

Also, when attempting to purchase on their website using the paypal option, it errors out. Anyone else have this issue?

One more question...

Post by lovemyfedora »

Are there any COW wested jacket owners in the Seattle area that have a off the rack 44, 46 or 48 jacket? I would love to try one of those sizes on so I have a better idea of what to order. Thanks!

I'm begining to get the feeling Wested customer service leaves a bit to be desired.

Have you considered a jacket from a different source?

Not bashing Wested as the products are probably fine, but simple answers to simple questions shouldn't feel painful.

I have considered Magnoli and US Wings. But I just cant justify investing in something that is not the original. Not that I am a true SA nut, but I just really want a wested that fits well without having to have one custom made. I am heading to Cairo in July and want a nice light jacket to wear in the evenings. It will be a trip of a life time and I want to have my HJ, David Morgan and a great Wested there....

So is the LC/CS jacket inherently longer? Boy I hope so. Somewhere I read that the Raiders jacket is a bit shorter. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Dude, even a light leather jacket isn't going to be fun in Cairo during the summer at night. Talk about a sauna...I've spent quite a bit of time there and wouldn't be looking like Indy that time of year.

The Wested is no more "original" than any other Indy jacket, IMHO. If you are buying off the rack these jackets aren't even made in the UK, they are from India. Having both a USW and Wested in my hands, the USW is higher quality.

The LC is a bit longer than the Raiders. Maybe you need a tall size though.

Yeah, I know... It will be hot. I am likely just going to take it for a photo opp in King Tuts Tomb or in front of the Pyramids. Probably the only time I will wear it there.

Take your Indy shirt and other stuff but leave the jacket at home. You will have a better time not having to lug it around.

Actually the shirt and pants will be great and functional; it drives me nuts to see people wearing short pants in these places!

The best costume though would be Indy when he was going into the map room! Now that would be functional and the locals would have a good time checking you out.

I love Cairo but make sure you get away from the tourist areas. And be sure to take the metro on a hot day at rush hour - you won't soon forget the thrill...

This is not true: full price off-the-rack jackets are made in UK, I bought two jackets and both are (very well) UK made.

Hey, the Tutankhamon tomb is NOT in Cairo! It's in the Kings Valley at Luxor. (Michaelson, chapter III, page 69 :D )

I don't know, but I think no, as all the special priced jackets seem made in India.

So does anyone have a LC/CS jacket in a size 46? if so, what is the measurement from bottom of armpit to bottom of coat? That number would help me a lot!

Yes, that is why the price is different.

To be honest, where it's made isn't a big deal (though they should tell people) but for a small price difference you can get a jacket of higher quality. If you do go USW, you will get a US made jacket at your door in about 5 days.

I like the Wested I have, no doubt. But I have no brand loyalty just because there's some connection to the original film.

If you're taking a tour, do your best to get away from the tour for at least a day and meet some local people and eat some local food.

Hey Bud... I had a 46Reg LC Wested that I recently sold because it was a bit too short. It was a standard size (no custom measurements) and the front of the jacket ended at the top of the belt line. I think it measured 25" from top of zipper to bottom of jacket. I'm 5'11", so your torso is probably even longer than mine.. my 2 cents would be that the jacket might be too short on ya. I currently have another LC Wested on order but this time I added a few inches to the length.

Have fun in Cairo.. take whatever gear you want, man! You'll probably be sorry if you don't.

The washed goat LC/CS in stock at the moment is from overseas. It seems a well made jacket. I tried one on but didn't buy it, OTR's don't usually fit me as they are cut too long for me. I do have a denim Indy which was also made overseas and it is great, absolutely no complaints, I had the arms shortened and was good to go.

So you could try the current otrs, anything other than the standard raiders is cut a little longer eg the roltaa. Or ask for a long.

Or, get a custom made for the extra $80.

Their customer service, at least by e-mail has been pretty painful, in my experience. I have sent them two e-mails looking for sizing clarifications, and they have given a straight answer on either occassion. I think that I have figured it out by now, but in my last e-mail I asked Do you want A or B? to which they replied Yes. ...

I am 6'1" tall as well. IMO, if the 44 Regular fit you well in every way except the length, you should try a 44 Long instead of a 46 Regular. A 44 Regular is a bit short on me as well, but a 44 Long fits perfectly.

I don't think long sizes are OTR: they are considered custom.
