We're all Jacket nuts on here - there's no mistaking that.
So here's my dilemma - I've had my wested for two years and I love it - but I really hate the way it fits - it's just not right at the waist - SO How do you guys dip into those wallets & convince yourself you need a new one???
It's a funny question - but i know you guys have answers.

The way i convince myself when I'm not happy with a jacket, is to sell it.
Then, since I don't have an Indy jacket anymore, but I have a pocket full of cash from selling the old one,..well, that's a good enough reason for me to get another one.
Once you get the new one, you'll get over losing the old one.

Years ago I had a goat Expedition that I really loved with one exception...I didn't like that it wasn't distressing as fast as I wanted. There was a Gearhead in Poland who was looking for the new (at the time) seal chrome goat and I sold him mine. Then I took the money and got a cowhide Expo.
A lot of folks in these parts buy, sell, and trade. Some have even been known to "gift" gear.

You know.... I have no idea HOW I convince myself I need a new jacket... I just know that I do! LOL
(and I probably always will). I have 5... 2 Raiders Lambskins, 2 US Wings CE, and a TN.
The first Wested was my first... no explanation needed there...
I bought the second Raiders Lambskin to replace the first that had started to develop holes in the leather as well as many holes in the liner.
I got the first CE because I wanted a distressed look leather for everyday wear, wanted a heavier jacket for early spring/late fall in New England (for which I think the Wested is ill suited) and wanted to keep the new Wested looking new since I think it's a little more elegant looking than the distressed ones.
Bought the second CE to replace the first because I was an idiot and tried to clean a stain with Lexol (note to everyone... don't use Lexol on one of the CS leather jackets. The finish definitely doesn't like it. I'm actually surprised. I used it all the time on my car's seats, my leather sofa, and my first Wested with no ill effects. All of which seem fine with it...)
Bought the TN because I got caught up in the hype quite frankly, but I don't regret it because I think it was worth it in the end. It's a lighter feeling jacket with a more comfortable lining than the US Wings jackets. Being a slim guy, the TN cut seems to fit me better in the body. The Wings jacket has perfect shoulder and sleeve length but is a bit too bulky around the middle. Probably when I have to start wearing sweaters underneath, it'll be my jacket of choice.
I plan to buy one more jacket, though not in the near future. With all this brown in my coat closet, I want a black one. It'll probably be G&B. That's gunna be quite some time in coming though....
That's how I justfied it to myself.... pretty weak reasoning, eh?

I guess my real problam is the wested I have now is the one i met Karen Allen and Harrrion Ford in - so I feel some kind of emotional attachment
Is that foolish?

Nope! My old Akubra Fed I'm keeping because it's been with me to several countries and been with me on several cool adventures. I just can't sell it, and there's no way I can throw it away! Emotional attachment is probably not the right way to say it though; you mean 'it has sentimental value.'
Also, with regards to the jacket, I think ill fit is a perfectly sound reason to buy another. Just make sure you keep that first one.

You met them with the other gear too right? you have the pictures to last forever? So maybe your jacket was there too, but that is one piece of of the whole set and if it doesn't fit right it will bug you forever. I know it would on me. and if the funds aren't there to keep it, at least all your other gear from those memories will still be there.
I'd say if you need to money to buy a new on, then sell it you must. but if you can spare the extra funds then hang onto it if it will make you happy to do so.

No, it's fetish. Sell your old jacket, and buy a shorter new one, this is my opinion.

The question for me is not how I can convince myself that I need a new jacket but how I can convince my wife!!! I guess I'm very persuasive because I'm about to order my 4th one! ......but that still doesn't explain why she always shakes her head when I mention jackets..... Hmmmm....could she be just humoring me???

Don't you dare sell that one. It's value is to you, and you'll be kicking yourself forever for selling it for what would be less than a new one.

I just got my first wested jacket and it was the wife's ok for a fathers day gift for me. I collect A-2's also, to get them I would sell stuff or save money a little at a time and wait till I had enough to buy anthor jacket. It amazing how fast you can save by taking what ever what he end of the week you have put in in a envlope and start saving or make a budget for yourself by putting 10,20 or 25 a week away. take a bag lunch insted of going out. hope this helps.I want to get a fedora so the money a week away method will help me save for the one I want. Then maybe a new jacket again later. hope this helps.

For those of you with 5+ jackets (I have "only" 4 at the moment), do you guys wear all of your jackets in your collection, or is there just "one" that you wear and keep the others as "closet stuffers?"

Well, I have 2 only: the Wested lambskin is just for... "having", and is still like new in the closet. The Wested pred-cowhide is my everyday wearing jacket: more heavy for the winter and good in 3 seasons.
(And I also have a denim, for the warm season.)
