What Inscription to put into my T.N. Indy 4 jacket? Help!

by Indiana Jackson
Tony Nowack called and my jacket is ready and he wanted to know how and what I want inscripted under the left pocket of my jacket and what COLOR thread to use. He suggested Black text on black lining or Gold text on black lining. The area will take up the space of 5 x 7 under the left pocket? What is everyone getting put on there's? He said it would say:

Authentic Indy 4 Jacket
Limited Edition
Custom Made for
"Your name Here"
LE 316/777
by Tony Nowak

but I could change it and have what I wanted put in there.

Opinions and pics of ones already recieved showing the text in yours are appreciated.

Thanks.

While nice, I personally think Tony's default is a bit wordy. I had mine changed to:

John Heltsley
# 013 / 777
Authentic INDY IV
by Tony Nowak

I also had him use the Gold on Black lining for mine, as I don't think it'll be obtrusive and I also love the photos I've seen of the INDY IV; it's done just to look like the Indy font, and I want to see that. I think it'd lose some effectivenes in Black on Black.

It's a huge inscription. If I were to get another, I'd probably ask for

Authentic Indy IV (in Indy script)
Limited Edition <XXX>/777
For <My Name>
by Tony Nowak (in "signature" script)

... if it wasn't for the fact that I don't want profanity in my jacket, I'd add under Tony's sig...

"Beat the .... out of it!"

It just seems to fit for some reason after talking to him on the phone...

I, personally, would have nothing written there. I'm not a fan at all of these inscriptions. Just another view.

I completely agree, and that's one of the things that keeps me from getting black on black... The 'Indy IV' part just doesn't look right! And if you keep the Indy IV part gold, but keep the rest black, it really draws the focus away from the rest of the inscription... Decisions, Decisions.

Personally, though I've debated this point with myself, I've decided to stick to what Mr. Nowak originally intended. ;)

Anybody got a picture of one of these things? They sound pretty cool looking! Maybe on Tony's site?

Tony's site is... let's say "underdeveloped". For the fellow computer geeks out there, I'll just say he uses AOL for email. :P

A few owners put up these Flickr photo galleries, though:

I opted for the black on black, because I could care less if anyone else can read it. I liked the gold embroidery, but I prefer things more low key.

Here's a pic:

It says:

It's The Mileage"

I have one with gold and one with black. The gold is my normal wear jacket and the black is my convention jacket. I like them both. At first I thought the gold was to much but if that was Tony's original intention then that is good enough for me. I can't say enough good things about these jackets and Tony himself.

I went with:

Authentic IndyIV Jacket
L.E. 704/777

Property of Bedford College of Archaeology

I wanted something unique that wouldn't ruin the value like having my name in the inscription. I also liked the movie quote idea but opted for the more subtle reference.

I am the proud owner of #766, it was one of the first LE jackets Tony shipped, and I got it with the gold inscription, which is the colour of thread Tony originally wanted to use to make his mark. Black is pretty cool though, and less obvious in photos - so - go black if your goin' for a costume piece. But, I like the gold because I can easily show it off, and have it visible for others to catch a glimpse of how special it is, it's a great conversation piece and chicks dig it. ;)

Regardless of what anyone says on here though, it's your jacket man... go with yer gut.

I asked Tony to put the following into my jacket in gold and use the sweeping IJ text/font for the name "Indiana Jones" and the rest to be block letters. I also asked it to be put on the back inside liner and centered under the label. Tell me what you think:

It reads as follows:

Indiana Jones
and the
Kingdom of
The Crystal Skull

Authentic
Limited Edition
Jacket
#316/777
Custom Made for
"My Name Here"
in California, USA

Can't wait to see some of those pics. And give me a break about "ruining" the value of the jacket with an inscription. That is so subjective. Besides, who would ever want to part with one of these beauties?

And, if you really, really had to / wanted, you could probably have the inscription picked out and re-done. It's not like it's etched into the leather.

I had mine read

"Fortune and Glory" across the bottom. Evertything else is standard, but I got it in Black on black.

cheers,

If I were to order another one (and I might) I would go with either "Fortune and Glory" or "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage" which apparently have already been used by others.

Sweet. I just got an email from Tony and mine should be here tomorrow. I had to shorten the inscription since it would cost mega bucks to digitize the new KOTCS logo onto the jacket. It now reads:

Authentic
Indy IV
Limited Edition Jacket
#316/777
My Name Here

Curious - Are you getting one of these jackets?

On the inside inscriptions - this is a custom made jacket after all so I think whatever you like is the best for you. I personally like less writing not more.

_ wrote:Yep - Tony is making one for me. This will be a special one because of the degree I was able to be involved (even a bit of work before Bernie was named top guy). Thus the wordy inscription. I've also asked Tony to write something personal inside in Sharpie, as well as Bernie.

But I also plan to wear it...
thats Great _. What exactly is it that you do by the way that gets you these great jobs? I hope you post photos of this jacket. Oh, and I am wondering why you wanted to put on it "The Unnamed Gene Project". Why not just Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Thanks _ and I understand. Could you answer a more general question about what you do for a living? The inscription you want makes sense now that you explained a bit of the back story. I think this is the great thing of a custom jacket and Tony's willingness to put whatever you want there. YOu really can make it something that means the most to you.
best and good luck (with the tuition and braces....actually my son just got his off).

I do a wide variety of flavors of financial consulting. I've been called a mercenary at times, and it can be like that - very hands-on and a bit "rough around the edges". Does that makes sense? I made it into working with this particular group by helping them buy and sell intellectual property of varrying types. Also, I have some long-time friends that have worked with principals like Speilberg, Lucas, and Bruckheimer in the production of projects for both TV and Film. Some of these principals also know of this "hobby" of mine, and that and the credibility I have with them in my other work was what gained me the great access I had for CS. And just a little more detail - there was an effort to obtain two items from Raiders that are now in private hands. While neither worked out, it was fun to work on.

Back in the day I also did similar types of financial mercenary work for Gates/Balmer, Paul Allen, and Steve Jobs. The combination of these things has allowed me to get involved in some fun things beyond just the numbers.

LOL! I even had a strong hand in selling Wizards of the Coast (Pokemon cards?) to Hasbro back in 1999. That one I can talk fairly openly about. Basically, if it is IP (high tech or artistic) I've worked a lot of deals over the last dozen years...
Funny how our hobby has a way of taking over our real job eh? I think of Steve Sansweet (who I do not kknow) and his love for all things Star Wars. I believe he is now working for Lucasfilm in fan relations or something like that. Or the other Steve - our good friend Steve Delk who turned his hobby into Indy Gold being the provider of the hat.

I have a financial advisor because he is good at it. Sounds like you are as well. Sounds like you earned that TN jacket and I hope you wear it in good health regardless of what inscription you go with.

thanks for the info,
best

ARGH!!! Somehow I got in my head to include in the inscription "It's not the leather, it's the pre-distressing."
