G&B zip: Any reason why it doesn't go all the way down?

Post by CM »

Just curious. Is this how the stunt jacket had it's zip, or is it a manufacturing choice. Apologies if this has been covered already.

As I recall, it was a manufacturing decision.

Just a thought on this, does having the zipper go all the way to the bottom lead to one pulling on the corner of the jacket, stretching it out?

I am guessing that this was the reason for having the zipper end higher, so that one would not need to pull very hard on the very corner of the coat to be able to zip it up.

iirc the zipper does not go all the way down for durability purposes. the SA zips are more prone to coming undone if they go right to the edge.....but then again....whoever zips up an indy jacket outside of nepal :P

this was one of my strikes on G&B.....as i would rather have a unmodified looking jacket, with flaws and all and that looks like the screen jacket, rather than a well made heirloom jacket.....i mean come on.....you'll need to wear that thing forever

If it's for functionality why does the USW jacket's zip go all the way to the bottom? The USW jacket design is far from SA on many fronts.

It does? I just looked at my two Wings jackets, and they stop a little over 1 inch from the bottom of the jacket, the same location as the zipper stop on my Todd's calfskin, and my cloth Wested jackets. What kind of Wings jacket are YOU looking at? :-k

It's a second-hand 3 year old goat skin. The zip stops about 0.5cm from the hem. Strange :-k

I'll let you know how far down my zip goes when I get my Expedition Goat on Tuesday.

If you got it second hand I'd be willing to bet it was altered before you got it. It must have been too long for the previous owner.

It's strange. I got a Large vintage cow USW about 6 years ago and the sleeves were too short for me but the body was good. This fits pretty much the same in the body but the sleeves are almost perfect. There was also a label inside saying that the jacket should not be dry cleaned as it would remove the "surface treatment" which was designed to age rapidly, like the Lamb they have. I thought the goat was just straight forward goat from USW.

Anyway... back to the zip. I don't think the body was altered judging by the length. Maybe this was some kind of experimental jacket? :? I really love the goat they use though... almost perfect for an Indy jacket. Very thin and light but with the strength of goat. very different to the USW goat which is a bit "puffy".

I've digressed a bit here but you get the picture...
