Well thanks to Jersey Jones I finally broke down.
Spend my stimulus check well friend.

What really stinks is, it has rained ever single day since I recieved it.

Who made that? It looks awesome! Once you get outside to use it I'd like it if you would compare it to one of your nylon whips (how it cracks, handles etc.)

Looks like a Strain.

A well-loved, pre-owned Strain. Can't quite tell from the pics. But the color is beautiful! Hope the weather breaks for ya soon, Ron.

By the way, LOVE that Gator skull in the back ground!

The gator skull WAS a SC nuisance animal, a friend is a trapper there. Appearently he developed a taste for poodles.
I have quite the skull collection...but no crystal ones yet.

Looks to me like you chose wisely in spending your stimulus check on that
particular item - very nice! Is it a 16 plait, or a 12 plait? Looks kinda like a
16 plait to me, but I'm not sure. I don't own one of Joe's whips, but if I were
to purchase another whip, his is one of two or three vendors I would seriously
consider.

Again, congrats on your purchase - hope the weather clears up soon so you
can wake up your neighbors!:junior:

It is a 12 plait.
Same width and srands/in. As my nylon whips. It is just that tight and smooth.

i'm DYING for a 10 foot natural tan indy whip from joe strain....but it's wayyy to much $$ for me for a whip, i'm a college student =/

I keep coming back to this thread! It makes my waiting for the Strain 8 ft I ordered even harder!

I love the color. I hope mine will naturally look like that in time.

Once I have my Strain, I hope to save up for a Morgan 10 ft. I think those two whips would complement each other nicely.

And how do my whips compare to a Joe Strain?
Well let me preface this by saying that I now 100% believe that Joe makes the best whip in the US.
Joes whip is better than mine regardless of the material.
But owning this whip has given me a great sense of pride in my work.
Here are the comparisons...
Unfortunately I am comparing an 8 ft paracord to a ten foot roo.
Here are the physical Similarties and differences.

8 ft nylon
Weight 1lb 3 oz
Handle Weight 9 oz

Strain
Weight 1 lb 11 oz
Handle Weight 13.2oz
The Diameter and rate of taper are about the same.

Handling.
The strain cracks even when you don't want it to. I don't know any other way to describe it. It is loud and accurate for a 10 ft. Excellent for sidearms and wraps. Probably a 10 ft thing rather than a roo thing though.
If I had any one complaint (and I don't) my wrist was a little sore after and hour or so with this beast. Very easy backwards crack.

The nylon cracks easily as well, but requires better form. It is pretty stiff as it is brand new. Just as accurate, but is only 8 ft. I suspect that an 8 ft Strain would certainly outclass this whip. Circus cracks, forward throws, and overheads performed for max soud matched evenly with the big strain. Side arms and wraps not quite as well. Backwards crack here takes a little sand.

All in all I am extraordinarily pleased with the performance of the nylon comparitively speaking. I prefer them over my Caicedo...but not the Strain.
While I am at it...the tale of the tape on my 8 ft 12 plt Caicedo.
Weight 12.3 oz
Handle 4.6 oz.
A 6 ft Taget whip I made weighed in at 13 oz. with a handle weight of 6.5 oz.
The little 6 footer is a dream. Fast, accurate, and super easy to crack.

Well that is about it...
If you can afford a Strain/Morgan/Jacka/Delcarpio/Midwest...etc get it!
If not, Nylon is a great place to start.
