What do you guys think?

I'm trying to make myself Indy alternatives, so I don't have to be walking down the street in a hat and be called Indy. Don't think anyone could confuse this hat with Indy....could they?

I decided to not use my flange and just iron the brim flat. If you need some good advice on bashing SOC style, just iron the front half of the brim with buncha steam and water, and it'll go nuts!

Doc_Jones: Yeah, this is my first. I intend on keeping on making hats until I learn the craft better.

This forum has really cursed me, the raiders bash is seriously one of my top favorite bashes.

it could just be me... but... that hat looks like a cake. especially the ribbon... might just be the photo-effect....

I just love that so many people on here are starting to make hats. As soon as some money starts rolling on, I want to learn how to do it as well. It looks like a great hobby.

Of course if I got good enough, I guess I could always just sell them to Lucasfilm for Indy 5.

BendingOak: This is just a heavily photoshopped photo. To tell the truth, I kind of painted over the photo, just to clean it up, because the best camera I had at hand was a crappy iPhone camera, so I wanted to make it sort of the way they did in the 50's hat ads. Those were cool.

gabrielle - I only have this block in size 59 right now, I could make you that... haha. won't help YOU much though, will it?

I am a 59. What're you asking?

Could you post a pre-photoshop photo of the hat? I really like it and want to see what it looks like without the neat photoshopping.

At this moment,I'm not sure I can get all the materials for this hat. I only have two more of those vintage tribal buttons left.

Also note a few things guys: This hat is weird- it's made to be a summer hat, so the felt has very little stiffner in it, which doesn't make it a long-lasting hat, several years tops. That also means that any bash installed requires cold water to stay. (It's floppier than a Borsalino!) Also, the brim is sort of Fisherman-style straight, until, of course you pop it on your noggin, then it'll warp. It has no liner and the sweatband isn't leather, it's made of terry, so it's soft to wear.

Now, I have to defend myself for these choices, because I bought a hat several years ago that was kind of like this one and it was the most comfortable hat I've ever worn. This one, so far, is pretty comfortable too.

It probably wouldn't be very expensive, but I have to check with my felt supplier. I'd like to make this a "under $100" hat, but at this moment I can't guarantee it. So if someone really really wants this hat, let me know, but I'll make you wait a bit longer, until I can fix a few things about the hat to my satisfaction...

I'll make a new one of these in the next few weeks and post pics. if you guys still like it i'll sell the new one.

I like it. I could do without the tribal button, but that is just me. Great looking hat, Mufflowne. What type of felt did you use?

you had me confused there for a minute. You guys were talking like it was a real hat and all I ever saw was a painting of one. Thought I lost my mind.

I was confused too, Oak. I figured Mufflowne had photoshopped the picture becuase he had mentioned the specs of the hat. Now that I see it again, I like it more than I did before, but still think the tribal button is a bit odd on a fedora.

Did you photoshop the whole thing or did you paint that?

I basically took a crappy grainy photo from my iphone and went over it in photoshop to clean it up. And it ended up looking painted.

Cool hat. Not meaning this in a negative way.. I could totally see Heath Ledger's Joker wearing this hat [minus the idol tassle thing] Looks very comfortable.

When I finally get around to making a hat myself I think I'll try doing one pretty floppy. If anyone's seen the old movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" Spencer Tracy's character Sgt. Culpepper wears a great beater of a hat I've always liked.. and what I'd probably go for making. You can have a different bash each time you pick it up to wear it if you want!
