Measuring brim dimensions

My recently received AB has dimensions that are slightly off from what is said to be accurate; the front and back at 2 3/4" and sides at 2 1/2" or 2 5/8".

Two questions:

Indy gear site says 2 5/8" and COW says 2 1/2". Which is it? If I'm going to trim the brim, I might as well get it right.

Do you measure on the underside of the brim from the edge of the sweatband?

Personally I think it should be cut to fit the dimensions of your face to frame i properly. I go with the 2 1/2" width and 2 3/4" front & back to fit my face shape. I had the standard 2 5/8" width & it seemed to wide to me so I trimmed it down & it worked.

I measure on top of the brim and mark it with tailors chalk, just be sure to subtract the width of the bow on the left side.

So basically get it trimmed to fit "you" and it will be correct. If you're not sure, you could get an old trasher hat for a couple of bucks and trim it down as an experiment. When you het it to where you want it record those measurements and maybe trace it on paper to have a template.
Either that or trim it to the 2 5/8" and see how it frames your face, if it doesn't look right trim a little more. Little bits at a time until you get what you want. It's always easier to remove material than to add.

Just some suggestions for what their worth.

Cheers!
