Buy now or wait until Fall?

I ordered a G&B lamb recently (hasn't arrived yet) but it is so hot here in the east that I am almost ready to call them back and say I will wait until September. It was almost 100 degrees today, that's so darn hot its not even comfortable to try a jacket on.

Is it wise to order them now, given that they will basically sit in a closet for 3 months?

Its not as if they are on sale at G&B - yes prices could rise by Sept. - but if I do keep it, how best should the jacket be stored for the next several months?

I highly doubt prices would rise....unless there was some kind of leather shortage. .....order it, wear it, break-it-in......and maybe put some Pecards on it for storage.....that way, it'll be all set to go when the weather turns cooler in the fall.

fold 'er up, put a dust cover on it and place it on the shelf

but if it's a expo, you can just krinkle it up and throw it in the corner....if a nuclear bomb went off, the only thing left would be spiders and chrome tanned leather :P

Why wait? Get it now and admire it all summer. That way the first chance you get in the fall, you're ready to rock!

I'm thinking about getting a lamb as well. Can't decide to get the goat though as I already have a USW goat... which is REALLY nice (except for the lining which I'm getting changed as I type). Can't wait to see your photos and review!!

With the rising prices on everything due to the gasoline situation, I'd say you might want to give serious consideration to sealing the deal now. By Fall, who knows what else may be affected cost wise.

Buy now. Everything is getting more expensive. Besides, who knows what the economy is going to do in the next couple months. With $140 a barrel oil, somethings got to give.

If you have the cash on hand, your jacket will be ready to wear as soon as you need it to be. Besides, there will be some cool nights between now and September.

I would get it now, too. This way you will have it on hand and you don't have to worry about what might happen if you wait until later.

If you're worried about price, why didn't you order a Wested or Todd's standard?

Because I've owned 4 Westeds in the past and a G&B and I really just preferred the feel and construction of the G&B. All the Westeds were fantastic but the G&B was just that bit better... In my opinion, which I understand is not necessarily shared. I also want a functional jacket which will stand the test of time which I believe the expedition will do better than Todd's from what I've read. Also, if there's any chance the prices will go up then I might as well get one now when I can just about afford it whereas Todd's Standard, I expect, will always be much cheaper than the G&B.

Considering the current exchange rate between the UK Pound and the USD, I'd say you're buying at a good time, Tollan!

Yes... That too! Who knows what will happen to the British Pound as well!

I'm still unsure whether I should have got the goat... although I already have a USW goat ...

...or you could have bought a Tony Nowak which many consider here the "holy grail" of all Indy Jackets. :)

well... that one is even MORE expensive. I thought about getting one from TN but eventually decided that I didn't particularly like the KCS jacket. I'm sure he will carry on making them for those that want one despite the claims of only 777 being made. He has the pattern so surely he wouldn't turn down the business if someone asked him to make one from another leather or similar one. I've been toying with the idea of getting G&B lamb for quite a while now and just decided to go with it... kind of an impulse buy ultimately. There may be no logic... if I were really that logical I probably wouldn't be hanging around here

Well, my order is in place and I hope to have the lamb and goat jackets in hand in a few weeks to compare. If you all are lucky (and pay me in artifacts like crystal skulls) I will review both. I guess for all those on the fence like me, I owe it to do a thorough comparison/analysis of the lamb and goat G&Bs, so you won't have to order both like me.

Agreed M, costs are clearly rising so the jacket might go even higher in the next few months, so I will keep the order in place. Then it will be a fit and appeal issue...
