I still think this one is closer with a little minor modding...

I'm sorry, but to me it appears it still needs a lot of work...

For $28 before tax and shipping, sounds really good to me.

I just got this airsoft gun yesterday from Speedy Toys. I immediately removed the "contour grip" add-on, and I used a silver pen to smudge on some "wear & tear" around the edges of the gun. I think it looks pretty good. I'm trying to figure out a way to add a lanyard loop to the handle.

I'll try to take some pics of it to show you guys.

I just bought that gun last saturday, it isn't very accurate but it rocks as a prop!!

What should I do? The two styles from speedytoys seem to be very reasonable facsimilies for less than $50.00. I believe that both need quite a bit of modding. Then we have Keppler's all resin model for approx. $100.00 but it isn't functional at all and the pictures on his website hopefully do not do it justice, it looks very fake to me. Then there is Todd's version that looks outstanding,the only modding it really needs is scraping off some paint and removing a couple stickers, but cost over $200.00 after shipping.

scot...depends on what you are looking for out of the prop. Are you looking for something to simply fit in the holster, or are you looking for screen accuracy? What's your budget?

I wish Shawn still had his FS thread in the Bazaar. I just bought a holster and one of the .38 airsoft pistols from him. Guess I'll have to post my own pics when they come in. He did a fantastic job with the pistol I posted the pic of...added wood grips and all. I'm going to wait and see what TimInKC comes up with for the lanyard ring.

Here are a few pics of the airsoft revolver shown in the above posts, after I have done some "distressing" on it with a silver pen. I used some up-close pictures of Indy's Smith&Wesson revolver from Raiders. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about adding a lanyard loop to the handle, but I think it looks good so far...

Wow, Tim. I was debating between the two guns (leaning towards the $30 airsoft due to price), but after seeing your modding, I've made my decision to go w/ the .38 FBI instead of the Indy-style 4". Great work, and keep it up.

(I wish I could switch the body of the FBI gun with the handle of the Indy-style. Then it would be ideal.)

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I was surprised myself at how simple it was to get it to look that way. Now if only there was something to do about that darn lanyard ring...

how did you get the one handle part off?

Just unscrew the grips and then you just pop it right off.

I am glad it is that simple, mine should be here tomorrow. I am a little angry it didn't arrive today. I chose UPS three day select and for some stupid reason it went through Canada then south of me to Kentucky. Tomorrow will be day 4 not includiing Sat. & Sun. I will probabably start modding right away and get some pics up by the weekend.

Even without the lanyard ring, IMO the .38 FBI model is a much closer match to Indy's "Bapty" S&W. Those "Indiana Jones Style" guns look more like something Dirty Harry would carry.

I figured it's as close as I'll be able to get to Indy's pistol for now, since I can't just go out and buy an old S&W 1917. Those new "S&W Classic" releases look great, but at upwards of a thousand bucks, it's steep.

Mine arrived this morning, the contour grip came off with no problem. How did you get the orange tip off is the million dollar question?

Paint over it. Then you have an excuse to weather the gun in silver details.

Ah, the orange tip. If you take a screwdriver (or similar tool) and place the tip of it just inside the barrel, you can pry the orange tip out. It sounds strange to explain it this way, but it is done while being careful and forceful at the same time. Don't try to just pop it right out quickly, try to pry it out slowly.

Also, if the authorities come calling, tell them I didn't remove the orange tip.

Popped right out for me with zero problems without any real effort just as easy as the grips. I have a silver acrylic paint marker by testors that I will probably use to apply the "bare metal" look to it. I tried a fine sandpaper but it appears that only the hammer, trigger, and maybe the barrell are real metal.

I may call Todd and see if he has and would be willing to sell the lanyard rings he installs on his guns. FYI I saw today that Todd has added two more Raider's Gun's to his website.

I used a silver marker as well. I alternated between applying a small dab of silver either directly onto the gun and smudge it with my fingertip, or apply the marker to the tip of a wadded-up paper towel and smudge it on from there.

Is there anyone out there who has any ideas regarding a lanyard loop? If it could be fitted to screw into the gun's airsoft gas port on the bottom of the handle, that would be ideal.

First I want to say thank you Tim for the tips and pics. Your mods look fantastic. I will be sure to post here any info I get from Todd. It may take a couple of days as I want to wait until after my next order arrives from him before I call. I haven't heard from him regarding my whip exchange so I will probably call him Thursday after another order arrives.

the guns that todd is selling right now are modified airsoft guns
so he will probably also tell you where to drill for the lanyard ring

What about superglue or an epoxy.

i don't think it would stick on very long with super glue, using the paper towel-superglue trick would probably

Same here. Even Todd's replica guns, as beautiful as they are, are out of my price range. I think I'll be nabbing one of those Airsoft guns in the near future; I can handle a little weathering job.

Merely pointing out another inexpensive option for those of you on a budget. This is just info that I am passing on from the subscription notice I recieved after I purchased my FBI model Airsoft 4 monhs ago.

Take it for what it is worth or not at all.

Guys, my lanyard rings will not work on those guns. The gas cylinder is right where the ring needs to go. Mine are a 3/4" long bolt. Sorry to disappoint.

I saw one of these modified with a lanyard ring that had a short wood screw on it. It was just screwed into the plastic frame until it hit the gas cylinder. Not very secure, but it stayed on.

If a person was not worried about damaging the gas cylinder of this model could it be made to work?

there is an option to drill a bit off center away from the gas chamber

You can find these anywhere. Do a Google search for sling swivels and you'll turn up tons of these.

Thanks Tim, I am trying to be subtle with most of the weathering on the gun.

The holster is a Todd's standard that I have started to age a bit. I put it an old pillow case with some rocks, cat litter, and mulch, then drug it around for a few minutes. Took it out of the bag wiped it off and applied a bronzing suntan lotion my wife uses and let it sit in the sun for several hours. I also took a scotchbrite pad to the gold stud.

extreme distressing!!!!

I would like to try modding the grips by getting a putty that hardens when activated and making the diamond shape and applying it to the grips and let it adhere and finish hardening then paint the diamonds. I also will try find swivel swing that I can simply glue on.
