405's stitching problem

I'm on my second pair of 405's and both have had the top stitching come undone at the "break" area. Aldens did nothing about it when mine were sent in for a refurb. I solved the problem myself by using a large curved needle and coming from the inside of the shoe, out over the loose thread and pulling it back down into place. Worked like a charm and my stitches have held.

How long did it take for the stitches to break? :?

Only acouple of months. The stitches didn' break, they came up out of the leather. I guess too much stress from crouching down and bending the shoes.

I've never owned a pair of aldens, are the toe stitches holding the toe together or are they just for looks? :?

Looks. It's the moc-toe stitching on the top of the shoe.
