Club Obi Wan

Hey! I've had my WPG shirt for a couple weeks now and, even tho I washed it twice, it's stiff as a board. The label says 100% cotton, but it doesn't feel like any cotton I've ever had. Has anyone else had this problem? Is the shirt starched? Should I just keep washing it?

Mine has the same problem, I never use it.

I've washed mine many times and it's still crunchy.

Makes a sound when I move.

And the sleeves shrunk two inches, so I can only wear them rolled up.

Other than that, it's fine.

Well, I have an XL Todd Shirt on order, but I'm not sure when it's shipping. I guess I'll just have to be shirtless TOD Indy for now.

Depends when you ordered, I placed an order on April 29th for an XL. It could be the middle of June or Middle of Summer.

My guess is minimum middle of summer. Todd is as our we, at the mercy of the manufacturer. I was hoping for early June but seems that may not happen.

The fabric is cotton, but it is such a tight weave ast to make it more like an unoiled oil cloth or outback shirt. It does make a good winter weight shirt but is a bugger to alter since it takes a heavy needle to sew it. Lesser needles break. The heavier needles tend to tear through the fabric and then those holes fray. You may notice this where they tacked the pleat in the back of the shirt.
Now, from what I hear Marc over at Adventurebilt offers up a very nice option that breathes real nice and has a very accurate color. See Jens post in this gear section.

It's certainetly one heavey duty shirt, very much of a military type material,

Using bleach may help loosen the fabric up but I can guarantee that the color will be gone. I know: I did it.

Mine is starting to soften up finally, I have washed it several times and used plenty of fabric softener

One thing I will say about the WPG shirt, it fits great after I had the Men's Warehouse custom fit it to me for $30 My God it was big and that rear pleat had to go, I didn't see it on any of the shirts Ford wore, at least in freeze fame the few times he had the jacket off and actually turned around in Raiders!

It is pretty comfortable now (I might still get a Todd's, like my Jacket, later this year)

Hey LVJ, how much bigger was the WPG shirt on you than what you changed its size to? I have a WPG shirt right now (it's XL, and I'm between M and L) with a Todd's M on the way. If you significantly changed the size, does it still look accurate enough?

I wore like a tent. it was ok in the neck (a 1/2" smaller would have been ok, but I never wear it closed) and the sleeves were just perfect

I think its more accurate now, as I had them remove the vent/pleat in the back as none of the shots I saw in Raiders had a vent just a flat back

These shirts are huge. I ordered a 17 neck and 35 sleeve and I am swimming in it. Also teh sleeves shrunk after washing it.

I find with 100% cotton clothing items to hang them dry, Mine hasn't shrunk at all.
And it fits great after I had it tailored at Men's Warehouse

I had two WPG glory shirts. Not only are they oversized for the oversized body he says we are now for eating at McDonalds, but even in a cold/cold wash and line dry, BOTH shirts from WPG shrank noticably. I won't buy another. Too baggy, and uncontrollable shrinkage, even in cold water and cold rinse, with no machine drying, just dripping on a plastic hanger.

You could check out Marc's shirt from AB. Here is a thread from Jens on his field use of the shirt. From what I understand they are cut to be fitted.

I recently washed my WPG shirt and added about 1/4 cup of bleach, and let it agitate for 30 minutes. Color faded nicely. Agitate bleach in a filled washer, add wet shirt, reset the agitate cycle after, for another 15 minutes. Worked out great.
