I ordered my Hat, so joining the Club seemed only fitting.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been reading for maybe just under two weeks now so it’s nice to be able to post. Indy was the fist Movie series that I latched onto on my own and because of that it has always been a big part of my life. I remember as a kid wanting a fedora so bad and then my Dad bought me one. It was gray and had a short brim but I loved it!

Then I got a brown one with a wider brim, made me even more happy as it was close to Indy’s. Both hats had a stitched front brim, but that didn’t bother me at the time. Then years later my Dad struck again because he bought me the official Indiana Jones hat (and I still have it.) I loved that hat but always knew that it wasn’t right. You could tell the color difference and even the crown shape was all wrong, but for my needs it served it’s purpose.

Well after getting into the prop world a few years ago for Doctor Who, I discovered the prop world of Indiana Jones. This place is a gold mine of helpful information.

I decided that my first hat would be a Camptown 1936 Field Master and Ken has been very helpful with what I wanted to see as the hat’s end result.

I am shooting for a mix of a raiders style hat (from what I can see here a Raven Bar version) and a Last Crusade.

I like the tight pinch but think that it might look better with a bit more of a loose look like LC. I also wanted the flipped up sides from certain shots of Raiders and LC. It’s looks more proper to me for a fedora and less cowboy hat. That may be a bad way to say it but I hope you get my point.

So I have no clue when it will be finished but I am a patient guy and Ken has been very gracious in answering all of my questions.

After the hat I plan on going for a Wested raiders jacket. I’m shooting for a dark brown goat for that, but I may change my mind.

Anyway, sorry about droning on, and thanks for reading.

Welcome to the club Terrasolo. Before you know it, you'll be spending millions of dollars on various hats and jackets. The Fieldmaster is indeed an excellent choice, it should last you a good time. I say go with the goat. It's a great piece of leather.

Agreed with my friend on both counts! The Camptown is an excellent choice, and you can NOT go wrong with goatskin, regardless of the maker.

Welcome!

Regard! Michaelson

Brilliant news! thanks guys. Ken suggested the goat as well, so having your vote just helps make the choice easier.

I just wanted a leather jacket that was durable and my experience with Lamb was that it was not.

as for the hat aside from the price, I wanted a hat that seemed tough as well as I don't expect to get another one for a while (want to concentrate on the rest of the outfit first) and the reading I did here seemed to suggest that the camptown's were just that.

Thank you Sir!

I just realized that my official hat would be about 12 years old now... it's held up pretty well and the pinch looks much better after my work on it, though no where near as nice as the real work you all do here.

what is the average hat count here? DSo any of you just have the one that takes the hits like Indy's or do you have one for each occasion?

greetings!

i'm also on the Fieldmaster waiting list... i really look foward to it.

tangent- i love Doctor Who. i dressed up as the Tenth Doctor, my girlfriend dressed as Rose and we went to the local RenFaire last fall. thought it would be more fun to dress up like time travellers and run around asking people "what year is it?!!! We've still got time!!" sonic screwdriver in hand.

my plan is to build a replica of the Tardis to use as a hat closet.

nice to meet you,
-Rich.

Indy! hello sir, Me thinks you may be seeing more of my money soon ;)

Another Who fan, Hello Rich, perfect timing you have posting after Indy because I bought two absolutely fantastic Tennant suits and overcoats from the man himself and I would not trade them for the world. Did you have your suit made or did you find a nice look-a-like somewhere? Oh! He even custom made a Life On Mars leather jacket for me if you like that show.

Hopefully linking to my Who site is ok here because I'm gonna do it!

Rich have you ever been to www.kasterborous.com ? if a Who fanzine site run by me and the two originators from the UK. I'd love to see any pics you have of you and your girlfriend in Who get up and if there is a rule here about posting non Indy props then the K (as we call kasterborous) is the place. If you are looking for a Who forum that is.

as for your TARDIS hat closet, that would be a lot of fun. My friend is picking up his life size TARDIS soon and I could not be more jealous.

I thought my prop budget was stretched enough with Doctor Who and now I have found a new outlet I sense that I will be a bit poorer...

oh man so jealous! i really want a true SA suit and overcoat! especially the overcoat. unfortunately my brown suit is just an off the rack close enough. i think abject poverty is in my not to distant future from this hobby.

no photos unfortunately. though i could post an embarasing picture of me in the suit holding the screwdriver while wearing a batman cowl. lol.... don't ask.

i have the feeling i'll be on your site quite a bit! First COW and now your Who site to focus my obsessive tendancies on.

but to tie the good doctor to the other good doctor, i think i remember reading a post here that Tom Baker wore a herbert johnson hat, the same people that made the hats for Indy. thought that was really cool.

sorry for going so off topic mods! some times the geekery has no bounds.

LOL, hmmm... perhaps they will permit the off topic as it is my thread and I am ok with it?

still enjoy yourself there, the people there seem everybit as nice as the gang here.

and I had read that about TB's hat too, interesting the way a lot of these things tie in.

Wow. It's really wierd, there always seems to be a crossover between Who and Indy fans. That's really wierd, because they're pretty different!

Count me in as another Who fan, and another person who's jealous you own Tennant's suit and coat! Especially the coat, again. Love that coat. Although not quite as much as Indy's jacket!

Welcome to the site, I hope you enjoy being here!

Great to see another Doctor Who fan on the board. I'm going to be attending a convention this summer as the 10th Doctor as well, small world. Welcome aboard, and check out Magnoli's site. It'll fill all your Indy AND Doctor Who costume needs, for a price.

I think the connection between Who and Indy is three simple things, one Indy is a time period piece and Who is time travel so it feels slightly at home. then you have the paranormal, but more so you have a hero who used his brains and not just his fists or weapons. Indy is more involved with the fisticuffs and guns, but he was always a smart guy and a quick thinker in a bad situation.

Glad to see some familiar ground on this board though, it helps to ease me in. Indy have been part of my fan world for as long as Who has and really I have collected props and things from the poorest of the poor quality and up from both worlds. Now that Who has some nice additions to my High Quality props,( thanks to Indy and a few others) it was Dr Jone's turn to share my wallet.

I know I posted pics of my Who suit on my Who site, but you'd have to be a member to read it still I think. I could be wrong, I know we were thinking of changing it. But the Magnoli craftsmanship is really beautiful. In fact i am looking at his Indy shirt and bag right now.

Magnoli's bag is fantastic. I can't comment on the shirt, as I don't own it, but I have his bag, and it's great. I've never been able to compare it to a genuine one, but to me, it looks perfect. The strap is great too.

Gotta admit, I did admire that he sold Who (and Life on Mars!) replica costumes, but sadly there's no way I could ever afford them. Plus, I don't do the full costume thing very much. I wear my Indy jacket day to day, but hardly ever need a suit or long coat or anything, so I could never really justify buying one.

Although I still adore Tennant's coat! I'd love to see pictures of yours sometime!

After finding this site i got my first Fedora a custom PB bashed in LC style. Hope you love your new found obsetion and you'll have to post some pics of the hat when you get it.

Oh man the way you guys are with your Indy jacket I am the same with my Life on Mars.

as for the Who outfit I wear suits to work everyday so yeah i could easily justify the purchase. the Indy Stuff will get use too, but more so the jacket and Hat I'm sure. the rest is for fun.

Welcome to COW. We're bigger on the inside than the outside.

Very nice Johnny, :D Love the reference and yeah, everyone here seems very friendly.
