I know when that shiny new leather whip gets used, it gets darker in color and all that. Has anyone ever tried, for lack of a better term, 'weathering' their nylon whip to give it a more "realistic" leather appearance?

Perhaps a thin wash of acylic paint or something?

Stain would work better than paint. This is all speculation, but I think it could work. If you soak an old rag in stain and ring it out really well, you could rub the whip down with that to achieve a "used" look.

The funny thing is that I HAVE used my whip... it just doesn't look like it.

I wonder if stain would damage the nylon.

Yes stain would damage the nylon, like with any whip there is no real good way of darkening it without somehow hurting the material that it is made out of. The only true way to darken any whip without damaging it is just to use it. I know it does not seem Russ that your whip is darkening but it is, looking at nylon whips that I have made and used in the past and ones I have made now the older ones are a little darker. Besides if I remember correctly the whip that I made for you almost 2 or more years ago is dark brown anyway. So I guess the best answer that I have is just use the whip.

Yep, it's dark brown... but it's a uniform dark brown.

Guess I just need to get out there and practice more.
