De Longis DVD

I haven't ever bought an instructional video on whipcracking, and wondered if the De Longis DVDs are useful to someone who only cracks Indy style whips. I intend getting a Jacka whip, but it will be the Indy 4 model, not the longer handle style that Mr De Longis normally uses. Is the instruction in these DVDs suitable for the shorter handle whip too?

Yes, yes, yes! When I went up to see Anthony, I got a good 6-8 hour lesson with him. When I left, he handed me "Whip Cracking with the Masters," and when I got home and watched it, it was like looking through a notebook of the day and reviewing everything! My whip is also not a long handle, it's a Stenhouse footer with a handle that's exactly 8 inches from the bottom of the Turk's head to the end of the ring knot (Anthony actually told me it was a very nice whip - good job Paul!!!).

The DVD is great, and you'll definitely find good use out of it. I actually just passed it on to another member, and he's already told me how great it is.

Hi JMObi,

Any of the good whipcracking video's out there(DeLongis' Video included), are good for cracking StockWhips/Bullwhips/Florida Cow Whips/and Long Snake Whips. The methods and motions of cracking each of them are all the same, there may be a slight difference in wrist action due to the variance of handle lengths of each whip, but what you learn from any of the video's can be used with any of those whips.

Also, the difference between the normal jacka whip "10 inch handle", and the Indy 4 model "8 inch handle", will be nearly non-existent. So if that is the video you want, I'd say go for it, and have fun!

Anthony's Whip Cracking with the Masters is a must have if you are whip cracker, as are Alex Green's whip DVDs from Western Stage Props, IMHO.

Has his prices just dropped? I could have sworn I looked at his site a week or so ago and he was charging $65 per DVD volume... Now it's $25 (+$5 s/h).

Never mind. His mastering the bullwhip dvds are still $65 a set. THe first 6 lessons are $25.

Another must have, and my personal favorite video, Mike Murphy's "Fundemental whipcracking techniques". It is often overlooked, but one of the most comprehensive beginning whipcracking video's out there at the moment.

But no matter which one you go for, they all have the same basic cracks, even if some of them use different names for them.

Hi Paul, I've been checking over your website and really like the look of your whips, especially the Indy 4. So many good ones to choose from!

I agree with Paul about Mike Murphy's DVD. Also Simon Martin's DVD's are great as well!

JMObi I own a bunch of the Delongis videos and have had them for along time. They are very good and teach Anthony’s very distinctive style of whip cracking very clearly.

No matter what whip your using you will get a lot out of them, but the Indy 4 Jacka whips where made particularly because they suited that style of whip cracking quite well. So the whip you will be using will work just fine as the way Terry makes the handle and the reinforces the section of the thong right off the handle, It acts as and extension of the handle giving you more leverage to work his rolling style of whip work.

Mike Murphy's DVD and Simon Martin's DVD's are also excellent videos, and teach vast array of whip cracking skills.
