Anyone know where to get the glasses Indy wore in the movie?

These glasses appear much different from what we've seen in the past, smaller, and if I'm not mistaken, no longer do they have the cable arms......Does anyone have any info on these new KOTCS glasses, I'd be interested!!!

Could be but the frames looked silver in color to me. Where did you find the pic? Frames direct?

Yeah, Frames Direct. They're also available in rhodium plated. Couldn't really tell myself on the color. You aren't talking about the set pics where he's wearing a more modern silver frame, are you?

I thought the glass frames mimicked the Algha frames from the past (though smaller), but the ear pieces were definitely not cable wraps.

I hope so! I've several pairs of the old cable type frames and I'd like to get ones from KOTCS as well. This will probably be the only "gear" from this movie that I buy since all the other gear is pretty much the same.

I don't think the new ones were panto shaped. At least they didn't appear to me that way. I'd guess round or slightly flat ovals.

This is a large photo from a magazine I got a while back - I've been meaning to scan it, but I keep forgetting to bring it to work where the big scanner is.

I don't think the new specs are near as cool as his old ones. If y'wear these, expect a lot of Harry Potter or John Lennon comments from the rubes.

Here's the oval but to my eye the round look more like the pic. Who knows though, the frames might not even be Alghas. The saddle bridge eliminates a good number of frames though.

Thanks for the pic, Snakewhip!! Personally, I like these new KOTCS specs better than what he'd worn previously.......A bit of Harry Potter/John Lennon perhaps, but Indy was years ahead of them....LOL!!!

They kinda look like the glasses Col. Potter from M*A*S*H wore which I guess means that those glasses were either the popular style or the only style.

I've ordered a pair of the Berkshire Chase Savile Row Warwick frames from Frames Direct.....The round ones shown in the pictures posted above.

I should have them within the next 7 days or so, and will be sure to post pics once they arrive.

Didn't they have a round hook behind the ear?

Not in KOTCS.....Indy takes them off just outside his classroom in the movie and in that scene you notice he's no longer using the cable temples.

I think those glasses in KOTCS were just to "old fogey" for me. I'll stick with the Raiders style. (minus the cable frame)

I had Aircrew glasses with cable earpieces and just could not stand them! Very uncomfortable for long wearing periods.

Well, I just ordered the Berkshire Chase Savile Row Warwick 14kt in Rhodium with skull temples. These things ain't cheap either at almost $300.00. Oh well, I guess I'll have to find some Inca, Aztec, and Mayan tombs and "borrow" some of its' contents!

Just to be sure, you did get the saddle bridge, right? That's the one that looks correct.

My frames arrived today....I purchased the Berkshire Chase Savile Row Warwick frames.......I ordered by phone so that the customer service rep could assist with getting the right size. I informed her what size I'm currently wearing, and told her that I wanted these new ones to be smaller....She recommended a size, and the order was place.

Well, I have to say I'm disappointed with them.....they are too large for my face, and I'm wondering if I get the same frame in a small size will there be enough room for my bifocals?

I'm not sure whether I want to take a chance on that, and these frames are very delicate to say the leat. I may have to look at the "Panto" style Ford wore in the other 3 movies.......Anyway, here's a picture of me with the frames on.....I look like I'm auditioning for Ringling Brother's Clown College they're so large on me.

With the delicate temples, I'm not even sure this is the same frame Ford wore in KOTS now......As I remember, his seemed a lot more sturdy looking, but there are no screen grabs, and no close-up pictures have been posted yet.

Bazza, I can't say I agree. They may just take some getting used to, as to my eye, they don't look all that bad on your face. Let's face it, we're our own worse critic when it comes to our gear, when in reality we're just worried what the OTHER guy/gal might think or not think. In this case, I believe after a few days of use, you'll figure out that these are actually nicer than you originally thought.

I am also a bifocal wearer, and can tell you from personal experience that you don't want to go TOO much smaller or you WILL have to swivel your head around more to see than you do with a slightly larger pair. Just a little change is enough to give you a stiff neck!

ij1936, have your new glasses arrived yet? As I mentioned in my last post in this thread, I felt the original frames I received were a bit too large for my face. They have been returned, and I'm expecting a replacement pair in a smaller size next week. Will be sure to post pics once I have the goods in hand.

I got mine on the 14th and sent them back the same day because they were waaaaaaaay too small. I had originally ordered the largest size but called and changed the frame to the second smallest size. I was thinking that the largest size would be too big so I changed the order. However, when the new ones arrived and I put them on, the temples barely reached my ears and were angled out quite a bit past 90 degrees to the frame.
I received an e-mail with a new invoice for the exchange on the 25th, so I am hoping to have them by the 4th.

So did we find out yet if they supplied frames for Indy 4?

I sent an e-mail to Algha asking if they provided the frames and they never responded. Maybe someone else would have better luck. For now, I'll just wait for the Framesdirect.com order.

Bazza, I must agree with Michaelson, above. I'm a little late reading this thread. I don't think the glasses you have on in your photo look too large. It's my opinion that the current fashion trend in small, rectangular lenses is a fad and not appropriate for those of us who need bifocals or trifocals. Stick with what works for you. I have the Raiders Saville Row with cables and it took some getting used to, but now they don't bother me. I have a 'progressive' lens in them and feel this size is vital to having the various focal lengths in a usable size.

I found out last week that the frames are on a two week backorder. I wound up changing my frame to the one with the nose pads which was about $60.00 cheaper. I don't know if those frames are on backorder too. I'm hoping that I'll see them (or through them!) by Saturday.

I just found this thread...it is interesting. I have a pair of 'John Lennon' glasses that are quite close...I also have a pair of British Optical import glasses that I bought from them several years ago that are round. I like them...they are like a round version of the original 'Indy' frames! Of the two -- the British Optical's are closer in looks then the 'Lennon' glasses. But those guys are out of business now, so I am not certain in which direction to guide anyone here. I like them both, almost as my standard 'Indy glasses' which came from Frames Direct! W>

Algha makes the frames for Berkshire Chase and made the frames for BOIC. I don't know which Lennon glasses you had but he actually wore quite a few different styles, round and panto shaped, and at least one acetate frame.

Just thought I'd bump this one and see what other options folks have found more recently.
So we are looking for a wire rim, saddle bridge pair of glasses. With ear hooks or straight. What is in the film appears more rounded than what has been posted above. I'm wondering if they found a good pair of vintage glasses to put Ford's Rx in or had them specially made.bI see plenty of vintage wire frame glasses with the saddle bridge on ebay, but they're all of the oval variety, and if they are round they are too large.
There is one pic on The Raider in the screen shots section, page 2, that shows a very clear shot of what they exactly look like but I can't seem to copy the image to post it here. It is the shot in Indy's house where he is holding the letter up.
So, has anybody made any breakthroughs to share? I myself will keep searching until I find those just right pair. Once I do I will be sure to share the source unless I find a one of a kind vintage. But there has to be a modern round option out there. Correct?

In doing some research I believe the style to be Windsors. Now the majority I've seen online have been the round larger variety & there are also the oval ones as well. So I think that we are looking for a Windsor frame that is somewhere inbetween the two. Also I noticed that Indy's frames are silver, & the frame around the lenses are covered. Either with tortoise shell or a brown leater or some sort of plastic. Possibally as a protector since the frames themselves are fairly thin & delicate. 40mm sounds like a good place to start with a 20mm bridge, but that will depend on how wide one's nose is between the eyes.
There was a pair of silver Algha Windsor frames I saw on one site that fit the size & shape bill, but lacked the frame protectant. There were a couple of AO frames that worked too but again lacked the brown covering around the lenses.

The quest continues.

Found a couple of "behind the scenes" images that may help.




The frame appears to be about a 38mm to 40mm size. The saddle bridge sure does appear to resemble the Algha style with the concave in it. It also looks to be sure that they are not wrap around arms either. Decent shot of his bow tie too.

Well I found this pair on ebay. They should fit the bill as a spare pair that have that KOTCS look to them.

The vintage frames are out there & for the most part are not too expensive. You just have to be patient.

Like Indy, I only need reading glasses, not bifocals (well, okay, Indy probably didn't have the benefit of Lasik) For great reading glasses ala Crystal Skull, Go to Zenni optical. Either model 4501 or 5500.

Im going for a more raiderish or at the very least, indy style. They are black and gold. I only spent 9.95 on them and they are vintage. Huzzah!

After seeing the close ups, pretty sure this is them. That's a cable temple sitting on his ear though in those pics.
