Other Predistressed Hides?

It seems that a lot of time and effort here (at least with some folks) goes into distressing lambskin or goatskin jackets to achieve that timeworn look. Some comparisons have been included, contrasting them with the predistressed cowhide jacket. Many of them favorably to my mind; there are a lot of artists here :)

My question is this: Is it possible (at least in theory) to have other hides predistressed, similar to the cowhide? I know that some folks here have visited the shops where the jackets are created. Who knows enough about the process to state whether it is a simple process to add that additional step to lamb and/or goat, or whether it is labor intensive, or whether it would even work with these hides? And for my own edification, does that step take place before or after the jacket is assembled?

Any light you can shed would be most welcome.

Best to all,

Although I cannot answer your question, Indydawg's pre-distressed cowhide certainly captures the Indy spirit in a jacket because it looks like it's been around for awhile and it has a definite Indyesque look to it. I really love this thing and can't wait for Peter to make me one.
