Quick Distressing!

This is going to be a silly thread but I thought I'd start it anyway, so here goes. Chronologically, Raiders comes after ToD and Indy abandond his jacket on the Bantu Wind when he climbed on the Nazi U-Boat. He would have had to buy a new jacket to replace it. Two years later though his new jacket is already pretty distressed as seen in LC! So, either he has
more then one jacket, He gets dragged behind trucks more often then we know of, or they really made shoddy jackets in the 1930s!

Maybe he just has a big can of acetone and a direct link to MK's homepage.

...or maybe he's actually clumbsy when running away from Michaelson and his giant can of Pecards.

Ha! This IS silly, but what the hey...

I always figured Indy got his hat/jacket/stuff back from Mr. Katanga. But even then, the 1938 jacket is pretty distressed. So, an adventure is missing: Indiana Jones and the Cave of Sandpaper.

Geez, I just always thought he got them from a wardrobe person standing by on the set.
Sometimes there are simple answers to complicated questions.

I am going with Cliffhanger on this one folks, how else would have Indy got the Aek back to the states, he radioed Katanga to the Nazi island and went on thier way.

I thought we agreed he had many versions of the same jacket in his closet in Raiders?
I have to believe he radioed Katanga towards the end.

This could explain the rumors I’ve heard that he has somehow managed to weaponize it into aerosol form and has been said to unknowingly spritz people wearing distressed jackets reeking of acetone as they pass by. <shrug>

I wasn't very popular at the last QM summit because of it, too. (who told you?!)

And what about the bullet hole in the left sleeve during the truck scene in Raiders? And didn't he get nicked in the Raven bar, too? So, for a really accurate screen version, we need a hole in the left sleeve. Or maybe he stitched up the sleeve. He probably sewed it himself, unless Peter did some pre-natal work.

You guys are hilarious....
"Cave of Sandpaper" haha! Michaelson and his Pecards.....
That was funny.....
Speaking of funny, hey Renderking, I was thinking about buying a new fedora, what do you recommend?

Yes, RF. You are correct. I just can't find the link to the post where had the acreen grab to show the various jackets hanging in his closet. Anyone know where to find it? It's around here somewhere.....
Cheers,
Indiana Joe
p.s.--Jones had to replace his lid and whip too. He lost his fed on the sub and I'm sure he ruined his whip being dragged through salt water whilst tied to the periscope with his whip, at least in the novelization).

I was pondering the same thing in my boring 3hr. Ethics class.....Temple of Doom took place 2years before Raiders, yet the ToD jacket looks
more distressed than the Raiders. Reading some of the replys, I completley forgot about the bullet hole in the left sleeve. I guess we can conclude that Indy
does indeed have more than one jacket hanging in his closet. I guess he was well prepared for on comming adventures.

If Indy was a real person and his adventurers REALLY took place....do you all think that the jacket (i.e. getting dragged behind a truck....jumping from a horse onto a tank, ect...) in REAL life would have been a Goatskin? Because the goat has the closest look and feel of the Lambskin. Do you alll think that in REAL life, it was Goat or some other form of hide that the movies were trying to "represent"?

With all of us jacket addicts here, it shouldn't be surprising that Indy was one himself. A closet full of jackets with Indy on a perpetual quest to find the "Perfect" one. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Well, I think if Indy was a real person, he'd use a jacket made of horse. Quite heavy, but almost bulletproof. The reason I pick horse over kangaroo, is simply because he's American instead of Australian and because the first A2 jackets were made of horse (if I remember correctly).

My grandmother has an old cataloge from 1901 in perfect condition and while looking through it they had 2 pages filled with whips. I believe there were cow and roo hide whips available in 8 & 12 plait and lengths varying from 6-10feet. When I checked the prices I almost had a heart attack. The HIGHEST price whip 10foot 12plait roo hide whip was $4.25 and the lowest price whip 6foot 8plait cow hide whip was $1.25. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't help but wonder the quality of those whips. Hmmmm.

i've got this reproduction of sears robuck(or something like that) from 1903 or '01(somewhere in there),--no, a fall 1900(im looking at it now). i'm now noticing a S&W M1899 military and police revlver(bears some resemlbance to the m1917) chambered in a .38, blued or nickle for a mere $13 even. or an H&R, 5 shot, 3 1/4 barreled, blued revolver for jsut 3.95. makes you cry doesnot it? wish i could go back in time with about a hundred bucks and i could buy everything i ever wanted(minus elctonics). really, deeply saddening......

Alas, nobody would take your money, as it looks funny and is dated a hundred years in the future. Unless you had some really old silver certificates, which would be worth enough to buy your gear today! You see the rub...

What about TOD where his clothes are shreaded on the bridge, he has no jacket, and then walks into the village with all "new" stuff. Did he carry a change of clothes around with him? His bag also was burned by the stones

Keep in mind, at that time those catalogs were printed, folks were earning 25 cents a day if lucky, so the price of that whip equaled almost a months wages. That would make them more expensive than a DM today using the same comparison. The revolvers were almost a half a years salary, so sthey weren't all that 'cheap'. I'm sure Indy went back after anything he could, being a college professor and not all that well paid, considering there was a Depression going on during the time period of the stories. Regards. Michaelson
p.s. As to condition of his jacket, remember, Pecards was around back then too. (you KNOW I had to say that!

I always imagined Jones going back and getting his stuff after the action. Right after Marrion yelled at Indy about her getting her money back... she's his Gosh Darn partner... he goes back to get the thousands of dollars. With that much at stake... a few thousand dollars while traveling could mean success or failure- life or death.
