ABs, made for tough use?

I know it’s just a movie and that everything you see at movie isn’t real, but I can’t stop thinking how ABs are so tough, they can survive waterfalls and atomic blasts!!!
For real now, I know ABs are actually tough, but how tough really? Can I use an AB for every day use for years? I mean everyday use, from simple city to tough rural conditions, getting really dirty (dust) and then getting crushed inside a hot backpack kind of pocket for hours (While I use a helmet) and then go back to shape?
Or should I be thinking about any other brand for this kind of usage?
:
Or I have seen to many Indy movies and start believing all what I see there?

Don't know what to tell you, but I wore my AB Friday while rebuilding a lean-to shed at my folks' house, and it was 94 degrees and 85% humidity in Oklahoma..............got dirt and all kinds of dead bugs and stuff all over it..........cleaned it with a hat brush and a damp cloth(YOU DID WHAT??? CLEANED IT?!?!? HOW DARE YOU!!) Hat looks as good as ever.........wear it...use it......abuse it...............love it!!!

Steve actually recommended
sitting on an AB at one point... so I can't imagine having it squished in a backpack would be any worse, unless there's things in there with it that might cut, stain, or otherwise cause actual physical damage to the hat.
Half the catchphrase is "built to last."
You should be fine.

I wouldn't buy anything else for that kind of usage but the AB line. It's a very tough hat. That doesn't mean I go and beat the snot out of it but for what you are talking about. it should handle it. Look how great they looked when it got wet in the movie and still looked the same. When the other hats ( other movie's) got wet they looked like rags.

Well, if you go WAY back in the history of the creation of the AB line, Steve's original goal was to create a hat that would be an example of what Indy's hat SHOULD really be. Tough, water resistant, and truly able to take on the adventures as we see him go through on screen.
That was the original intent before any of the following of the AB began. Marc followed suit with his AB Deluxe, but with higher end materials he sources in Europe.
So, yes, the AB line IS as tough as they say. That was the original intent BEFORE the first hat was even sold.
