I think I may have just messed up my pants for the premier. I had a go at dying some sand colored chinos I bought at Target with some RIT Cocoa Brown pwder dye and think I over did it. The pants are still wet but I am pretty sure they are too brown. I'm going to check on the, tomorrow and see how they turn out. I just hope Targer still has these in my size .

Hi DR Ulloa,

I would advise you to buy three packs of RIT dye remover and remove the colour.
Afterwards, redye the pants using a mix of Pearl Grey/Green 1:0.25 ratio or similar for a Raiders look. Calculate carefully how much dye you need for the weight and material of your pants.
It's better to decide yourself though.

Thanks. The pants seem to actually have been stained by the dye. They actually dyed a nice brown color which I may have kept that way had it not been for the gigantic stain on the rear of the pants.

Tricky dying pants, that's for sure...I got lucky in that I only had two little spots get 'stained'...And both are in the waistband, and will probably be covered by the belt.

Doing it in the washing machine definitely worked out better....But still tricky!

I'm finally happy with mine, so I'm not touching them again! (I can imagine if I screwed up a new pair of $50 slacks!)

...And don't forget those Wrangler slacks at Wal-mart if you get stuck.....They really aren't bad at all...I have 2 pair!

I actually used the washer method. I could not find a pot big enough to cook my pants in. Oh, well. You likve and you learn. I am definately not experimenting with dye again, thats for sure. But you are right Pyramid Blaster, at least they were not $50 pants!

An advice!

Add 30-40 g. of salt during the dying procedure. This helps open the fibers and distributes the dye more evenly.

Plus...before starting the dying procedure dissolve the dye in water at a ratio of 5g :500mL of water even if you use the washing machine... In case you add more dye in your mixture you don't have to add more water proportionally in the solution. This avoids concentration of the dye and stains.

Start the washing machine by loading water and before the machine finishes the loading add the dye solution through the soap dispenser.

I'm actually wearing the Wrangler 5-star slacks in this picture...Seriously, they're not bad at all...I really like them....The color is very Raiders, and they're pleated...Just no pocket flaps...I'm actually wearing them right now!

You really need to make sure the dye is well mixed into the wash before adding the clothes. I've done pants a few times and haven't had any problems.

I usually fill the washer, add the predissolved dye, mix it in really well, add pants, start washer cycle.

And yes, a pack or so of remover can always fix the problem.

I'm currently a 42...But on my way down! Should eventually level off at around 38...Maybe all this runnin' around in the summertime in a Goat Expedition and crackin' whips will help with that...

And I'll echo that...I was paranoid about messin' up my LL Bean's, so I mixed, mixed, and mixed some more...Then threw in the pre-soaked pants and swished some more until the agitation kicked in....

I may have kept that way had it not been for the gigantic stain on the rear of the pants.

Bink, I wear a size 32 waist. I may try the dye remover methos just so I don't have ruined pants. They were nice. Not pricey, I think they were only $20, but nice.

Saw your pics from the premiere--Looks like the gear turned out fine!!! What did you use for pants--Did you eventually straighten out the dye?

No. I actually liked the way they came out. Not SA, but I liked it none-the-less. They are actually kind of close to the color used in Crystal Skull. TO the premier, I wore a pair of Dockers Premium Relaxed Fit pants. The color is pretty close to the Raiders pants but it doesn't have any pocket flaps.

My wife snagged me a decent looking pair of pants tonight BUT they are "Khaki" in color.. I like them but I want to get the color right as well. Any suggestions as to what dye I should use?

Indygr et al,
I've been looking for information on redying pants and found this conversation really helpful.
I spent the morning redying a pair of Target khaki's for my son but had a problem that I'm hoping some one can help with.

I used the Pearl Grey to Green ratio above and found the Pearl Grey dye no sweat. However, the only green dye RIT had was either a Dark Green or Kelly Green. I chose the Dark green and my pants came out looking like Robin's pants in Batman. A strong darker green. So, I'm perplexed. Even though I only used a little amount, the green totally dominated the grey.

So, I'm trying again now.
I plan to double the amount of grey dye (2 packs instead of one) but should I use Dark Green again (it's sort of a Hunter Green) or try the Kelly Green?
Is doubling the grey going to help like I think it will?
Should I add some brown?
Thoughts?

Any help is appreciated.

Mate, for close enoughs they fit the bill quite well!
