Lots of Indys in SF

I was in San Francisco for four days and I saw two different people wearing Indy jackets. I live in NYC and have only EVER seen one other person besides myself in an Indy.

Do you think the hype of the new movie is encouraging more people to seek out an Indy jacket, or is there someone selling these jackets in the Bay Area?

Incidentally, one of them was a black Indy that looked like it had seen some pretty hard miles. A really good look. The other looked like it might still smell of the Wested shipping room.

Indy in the Port of St. Francis

One of things I loved most about living in San Francisco was that it was "Leather Weather" all year round. The Indy Jacket may be totally impractical in the Sahara or Amazon, but it's just perfect for Russian Hill.

Also, guys in SF are less likely to be Fashion Slaves as New Yorkers are. And in NYC, it's often too hot or too cold for that sort of jacket. I do remember seeing The Jacket often on the UWS and downtown, but it would have been after the "Last Crusade" release.

There might also be a higher percentage of Fans/Population in the Bay Area.

NYC has a lot of people with zero fashion clue, so it seems to be a place of extremes; either the person has good taste, or absolutely none, there seems to be little middle ground.

As for the jacket, I have seen a few around Manhattan, but also a few crappy knockoffs as well.

In the past 19 years since LC, I have seen some guys with A2's but never Indy jackets.

I have to agree with psbindy,I've never seen an Indy jacket in Illinois, and as far as the A-2's most are from the stores,I've seen true A-2's acouple of times and I have two,one from wings the other from flight suits, the one from flight suits is more historically correct. It's funny once you get into jackets you notice all the differnt styles and qualities.

That is one thing I love about SF, leather jacket weather year round. So you can imagine how disappointed I was on my last trip, when they had a "heat wave".

I was in Chicago for that same trip and didn't see any Indys, but I was only there for 2 days.

Probably won't be many more NYC sightings for a few months.

Fashion vs. Style

So much of what deemed "Fashionable" is quite hideous. Thus the Fashionable and un-Fashionable may be equally revolting to the eye. Over the past few decades the "Stylish" has not been Fashionable and Fashionable almost never Stylish.

One might add that San Francisco and many of its residents are Quite Stylish and manage to reject much of the Trendy and Fashionable. It's easy to over-romanticize the charm, but like the fog, it's there.

Being born and raised in SF I have lived here most of my life and other than me and my brother I have never seen any indy Jackets on anyone else. Not that there aren't anyone else who owns an indy jacket here. As for its "fashion sense" it is no different from any other metropolitan area. It has its up and its downs when it come to the style sense of its citizens believe me.

That other guy you saw in NY the Indy Gear was probably me.

I've only ever seen 1 other guy with a piece of Indy gear around these parts and he had the Mk VII bag and he was standing in line to Shake Shack on 23rd - that made my day.

More and more jackets are sold every day, yet so few are seen? What's happening to them? How many of you guys buy the Perfect Jacket but never wear it?

Were you having brunch at Cafe d'Alsace on the upper east?

Yeah, Indy's a popular costume in the Village Halloween parade even in years when there isn't a new movie.

haha doubtful - I'm more of a midtown guy - so there are perhaps 3 NY indy's then.

I don't think I have ever seen and Indy jacket in my neck of the woods (Manchester - England) and only the odd A2 on very rare occasions.
I myself am a big A2 fan wearing it as I when I can, weather permitting plus with my first Wested Raiders on the way I hope to be breaking it in asap.
Doubtful anybody will recognise the jacket anyway, probably just look like an average jacket to most people. :D

About two months ago, a guy came into the Cheif's club onbase and was wearing a Wings Indy jacket. Well being the curious sort I just had to ask. He looked at me and smiled and said "yes, it is a vintage wings Indy jacket". Who would have thunk it? All the way over here in Japan, on a Navy base. That confirms it; there are three Indy jackets here!
