Sorry for the stupid question but: who was the original maker of the Raiders shirt? I can't find this info in the IndyGear.

To my understanding, it was Noel Howard of MBA Costumes.

Technically speaking, it was Bermans and Nathans, but they wouldn't sell to individuals, so Noel Howard, who worked there during the making of Raiders opened up MBA costumes. :junior: -M

What about Dometakis? Was he just the designer?
It was my understanding that B&N contracted out to him.

I believe Andre Dometakis was the designer of the shirt. I know a few people have shirts made by him, so maybe he made them for the film? Or was he part of MBA? I'm not too sure there.

Yes- apparently you can order from Dometakis and I've read that he still has the original rolls of cotton that the original shirts came from (is this right, anyone?), but you have to wait a long time (maybe over a year or so) and pay an exorbitant price.
I can't recommend Noel Howard's shirt enough. I'm 100% happy with mine.

I second that. NH shirts are brilliant, I love mine.
Though Todd's new shirt looks really, really enticing! I love the cut of it!

This is really a grey area isn't it.
I've seen two original shirts and they both had Western Costume Co. labels in them. The one Noel has I believe has a Western Costume label in it also.

I hope the site update will bring some clarification to this issue...

An Italian movie magazine published in april a detailed article about IJ costume: they stated that the shirts (30) for Raiders were made by 'taylor Peter Botright'.

That's really funny! Don't believe easily what the magazines write in general. I have my own experience because I own a WWII jeep and in the magazine "La Manovella", the official Italian classic car magazine, there were some false statements about it.
In this case, I am pretty sure that the authors saw in the internet the Wested website offerings and concluded that the pants and shirts were made by him...In any case, I love the wested pants and I strongly believe that with few minor improvements can become as the originals!
According to many, both Andreas Dometakis and Bermans & Nathans submitted designs for the shirt. It seems that the design that prevailed was that of Bermans & Nathans... It's like today, more than one producers proposed jacket prototypes and in the end one prevailed for various reasons.
...but for more detailed info I leave it to the 'higher authority'

Yes you're right. Anyway the article is
very well informed on hat, jacket, boots, whip, guns and bag.

Well noted!!
Nice work by that magazine...it seems that they chose one of the most iconic pics for this analysis!

Strones;
What does it say about the bag?

If it really says a Mk VII will fetch $800 on eBay, I'm so selling off some bags...

It says that it's a gas mask bag model MKVII from WWII produced in England in 1941-1942, and that the original model had not a leather strap (but fabric), and that you can with some luck find one of these in the military flea markets or ebay. And that one original bag used in the film (which one?) was sold in auction for 800 USD.

IIRC Western Costumes made the shirt but Dometakis was contracted out by B&N to recreate the shirt in England where the bulk of the filming was done.
In a manner of speaking, Dometakis is the craftsman, not the designer.
Someone with more knowledge than me can probably answer this better!
