Distressing My Gear This Weekend

After months of gathering it all together (Jacket, Whip, Bag, Shirt, Trousers, Belts, Straps, Grail Diary etc.), in prep. for the midnight showing of Indiana Jones here in Hollywood I'm going to be distressing it all to complete the look this weekend.

I'll admit, with the effort that went into getting screen authentic and "what I feel is" perfect gear, it's a little nerve racking to think about distressing it with the chance of taking it too far.

I've been studying all the wonderful tips and guides all of you have contributed to here on the forums and your various sites, so THANK YOU for that.

I'm going to go easy on it, rub it down with some rubbing alcohol to take off the shine and then take my time with the 320 grit sand paper. I'm not looking to over do it, just get a nice "realistic" worn look.

In addition, I hope to document the process step by step to share with all of you. Hopefully it goes well and it will be yet another guide to future Indyfans to use when distressing their gear. All in all, I haven't been a poster on the forums, but a lurker / observer and I wanted to take the time to say thanks to everyone on this site for your helpful insight. It's been instrumental in the creation of my very own Indy outfit.

I am going for that "fresh-from-the-set" look myself, but I've decided to try just dusting everything in Fuller's Earth. That way, I won't do anything permanent (well that's the plan anyway ).

The Fuller's should dull any shine and help the gear look used, I'm thinking.

After slowly distressing my Wested I have to say I fall into the natural distressing group. I did a bit of sanding on it and it didn't really do much for me, but after wearing it for a few months the shine came off on its own and I've gotten quite a few compliments on my "distressing" job.
