I appologize if this is in the wrong area but it does pertain to a leather jacket. However, it's not a request for advice on who to buy the most accurate Raiders jacket from. It's not a post to help me decide on which leather to choose or even to figure out the SA details that may have been overlooked. It looks like i am getting ready to have some problems with a jacket that i have recently ordered and need some advice from those who may have been there and done that...

Just recently i ordered a custom leather jacket. Instead of suppling mesurements I went a step further and supplied the jacket maker with another custom jacket i had had made for me. The jacket i sent for them to take measurements off of fit me perfect. Well, a month went by and i recieved both my ordered jacket in the mail as well as the jacket i had sent to use for measurements. I tried on my newly made custom leather jacket and it fit perfect....well most of it. The shoulders were perfect, the length was perfect, the waist and chest...you guessed it...perfect. The only problem was they sleeves were at least an inch to short. So, the entire jacket fit the same as the jacket i had sent to be used for measurements except the sleeves (this is very important as it is where the dispute lies). The maker told me that I needed to mail the jacket back to them so the jacket could be repaired so I went to the post office and sent it off. I just recently got an email saying that they had recieved the jacket and could fix it but it would cost me an extra $250!! The jacket maker said that "we can't foot the bill for this as the measurements seem to match up with what was provided". Like i said before most of the jacket fit me exactly like the jacket i provided except the sleeves which were clearly no where close to being the same length.
Anyway, as many jackets as are ordered from those that post on these forums i thought you all might have some good ideas on how to handle this. Also, everyone could probably tell me if i am being resonable in saying that the screw up on the measurements was not my fault. Words cannot describe how disappointed and ticked off i am right now...i guess i just needed to do a little venting as well.

Do they do business online? What does their web site policy say about returns, exchanges, etc.? It appears you did not get what you paid for. Did you actually measure the two jackets to see how the sleeves differed in length? Filing suit over a small amount would not be cost effective. You could try filing a complaint with some consumer affairs department or the BBB in their state.

The return policy says they do "not accept any returns due to customer error in the taking of measurements". Which is fine...i could understand this policy. However, in this case i am having a hard time figuring out how the wrong measurements were in "customer error".

Take measurements of both jacket sleeves, then take pictures of them side by side and send them to the jacket maker. If they are as different as you say then it should be up to them to fix it without any extra money from you. If they don't match up then the error is on them.

You paid for it to begin with and if it not what you asked for then how is it your fault when you provided them with a complete template for measurement? To me there is no excuse. In this case you did not provide them with written measurements, they took them themselves. If the sleeves were shorter on the new one then it shouldn't have even left their hands until it was corrected.

If they won't correct their mistake. Get the jackets back and dispute the charge with your credit card company.

Thanks for the advice 5...i totaly agree. However, I just spent $60 shipping this back to the company that made the jacket so it is not in my possession. Unless they agreed to pay shipping so i could compare I dont know if i would want to have to pay another $60 to ship the jacket to them a second time. All i could really show atm is the jacket I sent to use for measurements, but I dont really think that would do much good since i would not have anything to show for comaprison.

Do you have an invoice from the original transaction?

If so, does it state on there any of the actual garment measurements,
like what actual measurement the sleeves were made to?

If you have this info, then you can see if the jacket that they made was
made to those measurements, and that it matches what you have written
on your invoice by comparing it to the jacket you sent them as a reference.

You are not responsible for mistakes on their part, but be ready for a
fight, because you didn't actually give them a real measurement for
the sleeve length. They will probably say that they made it per your
other jacket, and unless you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that
they made it wrong, they will fight you.

You can show them pictures, but they will probably deny that the jacket
you have shown is the one you sent them.

If you get nowhere with this company about fixing THEIR mistake, tell
them to send the jacket back to you, and see if you can get the sleeves
let out at a local seamstress or tailor shop. Even some places that sell
mens suits will do it for a fee.

Most times, there is between 1.00 to 1.50 inches of material folded up
inside the sleeves of leather coats when they make the actual final hem.

If there is, you will pay about 25 bucks or so to get the sleeves
let out to the proper length.
