Help, really confused about jackets origin

I am brand spanking new to this forum but I have been on and off reading everything on this site for about a year and I cannot find true clarification on the Jackets original maker.

Let me say this My wife and I have an agreement that if I lose 40 pounds she would let me buy the indy jacket. Right now I am about 20 pounds away from my goal..YEA!

With all that said can somebody please direct me or explain who is the original maker of the jacket is? This journey that lead me to come to this forum was what was mention about the jacket in wikipedia on Indiana Jones. States that, "the leather jacket - a hybrid of the "Type 440" and the A-2 jacket, made by Wested Leather Co." However, Looking on this forum it is not the case, it appears that Novak is the original maker of all the jackets. Even though Wested claims that they were/are the original maker and say that they have all the patterns. So help me please!! Even if Wested is not the original they appear to make the best repro out of all of them and not insanely priced at $1500+. I do apologize for most likely a very redundant post that was probably clarified long ago so any guidance or information is needed and appreciated.

Jay

BTW, as I am typing this I am watching Raiders of the lost Ark getting ready for KotCS!! :D

Nowak made the one for this coming film. Read Indygear for the old history. It's mostly correct about the first film jacket. From there you can wait until the new history comes out in 2 weeks.

Essentailly Wested did the first; Coopers the Second; Wested the Third (from a new design beacuse they lost the original) Nowak No 4.

As to quality - read posts and decide for yourself. Wested is a lot better these days. It's all opinion here.

Cheers

thanks, that explained a lot. I like what I read about Wested jackets and they have a very good customer service/satisfaction policy. Although now that I understand that Novak is offering the jackets for under $1000 for the CS on a limited edition run, I may be steering that way. Now I just need to convince the wife to get the jacket sooner than later.

I know now that the Raiders jacket has not very useful pockets. but look at the pics from Wested and watching the film I am tempted to get one of those. ..Shoot who knows maybe I can get version of everyone of the films for my wardrobe.

Wested also made prototypes for the 4th film. From pictures I've seen of the proto, the main visible difference is that the bottom of the jacket has a sewn seam on the Wested the screen one does not. Some have boxes stitches on the straps others retangular bar stitches.

Neither are earth shattering, and can be achieved I'm sure!

Don't overlook the US made Gibson and Barnes - read about them here or on their website. VERY well made and my favourite. Having one made by the original manufacturere doesn't mean much to me - I settle for quality and the pockets on G& B's are hard to beat.

By the way - all the jackets have useful pockets - it's just that Wested tend to give you clow pockets (too big) unless you ask for changes.

Cheers

Here's what I read, in the Jacket FAQS:
Why do some of the jackets seen in Temple of Doom look different from the Wested Jacket? I actually talked to Peter Botwright about this. Apparently, In making the second movie, jackets left over from Raiders were used by the stuntmen. Peter did make some new jackets worn by Harrison but during the production some extra jackets were needed. Instead of going to Peter the production had a company in France make copies of the jacket for them. It must be these jackets you are seeing which are different.

We now know this is inaccurate. New research coming.
