Indy's Socks?

It's probably not that big of a deal, but I've always wondered what color socks Indy wore and if they were ever visible in any of the films. I've frozen close-ups of his boots and him sitting, but can't make them out (usually because his pants cover them).
If anyone has any useful info, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

I've got a copy of what I think was a glossy souvenir program from ToD ("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom---Official Collector's Edition", published by Paradise Press)...It has a full-page behind-the-scenes shot of Indy and Short Round perched atop an elephant...Shorty is holding the production slate and grinning like a madman. Indy's pants have ridden up to about about an inch-and-a-half above his Aldens...and the socks look either black or really, really dark brown. (maybe it's the same color as the hat ribbon!)

451, if you do a search for "socks" you'll likely come up with all the past discussions regarding this.

Well, yeah. After all, socks come in pairs!

At least we can be sure there are two of them, then.
Nice detective work there, Bink!

Now that last one makes it tricky
)
I would say Indy's using black socks again this fourth time around. The trailer showing Indy heading of on the testrig clearly shows his socks to be black and high up.
PS: Binky, so two feet makes us all screenaccurate You say?

We've seen photos on set of black socks, and we've seen white socks in the same situation, and they're posted somewhere in the archives, you choose. They're both technically SA, even though no one ever SEES them on screen!

The socks are easily debateable, as Michaelson said, they're all SA - it's the OTHER question that tortures the Indy-Gear mind:

I believe you can actually catch a glimpse of them on the flying wing in Raiders, but I could be mistaken. They appear to be a very dark brown, cotton sock. Dark brown would go much better than black anyway...there's no other black in his ensemble.

I think it's funny when folks say black and brown don't go together. Despite vintage boots (going back over 100 years and more, even) that are black with brown trim, It's perfectly fine to wear the two colors together today. I think the trick is that you want the obvious contrast to show between the colors. Heck, I have a dark brown herringbone jacket with black highlights between the pattern. It looks great with black trousers. Even various military uniforms used the combination in the past with the uniform being brown and the boots black. I think you want to avoid the black with navy blue effect, but if you have good color contrast with your accent color, I think you're fine.

You are absolutely right. Both are neutrals and work fine together. I think there are a few of those "old" fashion rules that don't really apply anymore (belt and shoes match, etc).
/Ashamed to admit I've watched a few episodes of What Not To Wear ;-)
//Well, not really ashamed - Stacy London is cute.

Which Black?
Choices include:
Classic Black,
Jet Black,
True Black,
New Black,
Light Black (and Dark Black),
Midnight Black,
Black Ink,
Deep Black,
Coffee Black (which I personally think may be the colour of the hatband),
Flat Black,
Matte Black,
Black-on-Black,
Conrad Black,
etc.
Although Indy is frequently beaten black-and-blue, it seldom extends to his wardrobe.

OK enough joking about socks. I seldom wax poetic about something as mundane as socks. But, I found a brand available as seconds at the LL Bean outlet near my home. It is SmartWool. If you are going to wear boots all day, these are the socks to wear.
They come in everything from thin dress versions all the way up to thick, highly engineered (do not laugh, have you ever seen a sock knitting machine? they are serious machinery) hiking versions The old timers swore by wool for being cool in summer warm in winter. in this case, they were right.
official website:
https://www.smartwool.com/default.cfm
discounter:
http://www.sierratradingpost.com/SmartW ... essed=true
I have no connection to any of the above companies other than that of a satisfied customer.

don't they show his socks during the Card playing scene in TOD

The TOD socks clearly match the color of the elephant. Now, is that:
A. an Authentic Elephant
B. a Washed Elephant
C. a Shrunken Elephant
D. a Very Large Goat, or
E. None of the above
Please mark your answer with a No. 2 pencil.

Then of course there is also a couple pics that look something like this...

by sneakertinker
And here are a couple more...The first pic clearly shoes DARK socks (Could be Black...Could be Dark Brown)...
The second pic you can just make out a DARK sock on Harrison in the back right side...

Really just pick your poison people...
This debate has been going on for as long as I can remember and I would assume that you could be SA with Black, Dark Brown, or White socks...

Id say black for Raiders, no one remembers when he steps on the gas pedal inside the truck? Black also for Temple, they seem black to me on the back of the elephant. Cant think of a sock scene in Crusade, but that shot of him on the rocket sled says dark brown to me. Unless they are CGI socks. Which is entirely possible.
For more fun Indy socks, go to youtube and look up the Indiana Jones trilogy as performed by sock puppets. And the Crystal Skull was performed as such too.
And oh yeah, Boxers, all the way.

Couple more...
In this one you can just make out a DARK Sock...
and in this one you can 100% make out a DARK Sock...
Still trying to find more pics I had saved of Indy in the white socks...I know there was one I had with him on the Horse from Raiders...I know I have it on my Hard Drive someplace...

Black and Brown can match in an ensamble, but I'll tell you, as a filmmaker, I would rather have an actor wear dark brown than black for the reason being, that in the situation that socks show, black would catch the eye more and be more eye catching rather than a brown sock that would just blend in with the uniform. It's a small insignifigant detail, but enough that when I'd look through a camera I would change...and you can't give him khaki, just doesn't look right.
in this hobby I always try and think in terms of props or costumes what would make more sense in a production logic rather that "What would indy do?" sense.

I think they're ALL white socks, and the color you see depends only on how long Indy has been on his adventure when you see them.

if im not mistaken there is a good picture of his socks when he falls out of the temple entrance in Raiders, and he getting ready to give up the idol to Belloq. Black or brown??? i dont no?

Here's a thought. Maybe he wears black socks when he wears his black tie...
http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc2 ... /ry%3D480/
... and maybe he wears dark brown ones when he doesn't wear the tie. I would hope he'd change his socks once in a while.

As I said before, "Trust me, they are BROWN!" and now I will prove it...
Even though this is the stuntman, he still wears the same wardrobe items...
So there ya go- PROOF that the socks are BROWN
