Club Obi Wan

I was out practicing today and noticed that the braid on my DM's handle seemed to be slipping. What I mean is that I can actually twist it in place. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any recommendations on how to fix it or slow it down?

I had that problem with mine. I sent it back to the whip maker to have it tightened back up. It is something that can be fixed.

I am curious why this would happen. The only thing(s) I can think of would be that (1) too much plaiting grease was used when plaiting the handle, or (2) the handle was plaited too loosely, or (3) too much pecards, or similar product was applied to the handle by the owner, or (4) a combination of the first 3. Maybe some of the excellent whip makers here could explain?

Of those four, I'm guessing it was option #3 that did it. I know that I had some bad exposure to the elements and gave it a good coating of Pecards afterwards.

Is it twisting at the butt end, middle or by the transition knot? Just curious. Also what length whip?

I have a couple of theories about why your whip is doing this, but need more info to give the correct theory.

Louie, it's in the middle of the handle. It just seems that the braid is loose and can be twisted. It's a 10-footer.

That's the one spot I don't know about. I know why it would be loose at the butt and at the transition, but not the middle.

I've only experienced that on a modern DM. I think it was a case of the strands being cut just too wide for the core below.
