Be wary of ANYTHING that says "Licensed" I was fooled by DP and Until COW I didn't know any better. I'm sure it's plain cowhide (not even the good kind) And for that price you'd be better off with a vendor from here. I'd want something to be accurate, durable, and of high quality, NOT Marketable even though it says functional. Most if not ALL whips are functional, but doesn't make them GOOD.

While you're at it, beware of anything from the Noble Collection. ;-)

Their swords are overpriced stainless @#$% too!

That's because it IS a 4-plait POS.

It looks like an 8 plait that ends as a 4 plait. It's weird looking in the middle where the strands are thinner than they are at the point of the whip...almost like they were cut with an "hourglass" shape instead of a "wedge" shape.

I've seen a lot worse. Heck, I HAVE a lot worse.

the knots remind me a lot of the cowhide whip that I had that was made by a maker that's here on COW...

It's funny the picture in the ad for the whip is the picture of Harrison Ford holding the KotCS whip, but has that whip removed and the "disney pitch" whip put in it's place, then the whip for sale looks completely different from the one in the the picture!!

You know...It doesnt look THAT bad.......But it ain't worth 200 bones.

And that's really the thing with the Noble Collection and Marto, (and I don't know who owns who in that bizarre incestuous corporate thing,) but their stuff isn't really AWFUL. It's OK. But "Official License" or not, it's not worth the stupid amounts that they charge for them.

And I agree with Louie. It looks 8 plait that drops to 4, but there IS something odd about the way the strands are cut that makes it not look quite right.

And you know, I don't know of much in the Marto area of collectability that has actually gone UP in value, officially licensed or not. I've got an "Official Highlander Sword of Connor" Katana from Marto/N-C, and trying to unload that lately has been a PAIN!

A good whip will hold it's value. Even "broken in."

So, if you're looking for a good whip, I'd forget the officially licensed stuff, save some cash, and get a GOOD whip from one of the brilliant braidin' folks on COW. If it's JUST for display, I'd snag one of Todd's rubber cored whips. Looks nicer, is probably more usable, and costs the same.

Just my two cents.

Exactly...might be nice for $50-75 as a starter, but not much more than that. Head out with that and a Dorfman and you're all set!

I wouldn't hang a 400 whip on anything metal from the Noble Collection. Different metals can cause bizarre oxidation effects on leather, especially conditioned kangaroo, (acids from the fat/petroleum in the leather conditioner could cause bizarre reactions with the plated zinc/pot metal/@#$% that the Noble Collection uses. The effects can be worse than dry-rot.)

You'd be better off to have someone make a wooden holder with a metal plaque.

Hmmm....I'm no expert, but if I was to venture a professional guess as to why the strands look so funky, it would be this: The maker braided the whip from the tail end down to the butt, slicing the 4 strands into 8 strands at a certain point. I've seen that done on numerous bullwhips, including the wood handled American bullwhip that WSP offers. That would explain why we see the whip end in 4 strands after starting in 8 without a 6-plait braid anywhere between....Just tossin' in my .02....

Chris yup you're right. If you look closely on the top of the coil and follow the thong that is laying on the map you can clearly see two strands go underneath one strand.
