The bags in the film were all green, but between fading, dust, and dye variations it's difficult to say exactly what shade of green. Magnoli's bags have always been more of a greenish khaki. There are some authentic bags in existence that match his color pretty closely, but for some it's not green enough for screen accuracy.

Basically, you didn't get a faulty bag. That's the color they come. Personally, I like it, but I understand why some don't.

Magnoli's bag is GREAT. I use it for everything, it's my primary school bag and I occasionally carry other things in it as well. That being said, I also have a WPG original for when I'm wearing all the gear as a 'costume'. The color of the Magnoli bag is way too far off to pass it off as a repro in my opinion, but once again, it's a great bag.

They're different dye lots, apparantly. Magnoli said he sent me a tan one and a green one. I'll trade you my green for your tan. I'd prefer the tan.

Olive drab green RIT dye. Of course, then the strap-attachment-fabric thingies would be dyed, too. Unless you take those off and sew them back on after the dye. I might do this some day.

I dont have any problems with it. Obviously not paying enough attention but when i watch the films the bags seem to be more the colour of magnoli's than others and some of the originals you can get/as they vary so much. The pictures from last crusade and IV and so far the bag strap n buckle looks spot on to me. But thats just my opinion, im chuffed to bits with it and went with magnolis because everyone else's looked too green from what i see in the films and photos

I used Kelly Green RIT dye on my Magnoli satchel.

Like Risu said, the strap webbing and the lanyard loop takes the dye more easily than the canvas, so they came out a darker green, but it doesn't bother me too much. I didn't find the original olive-tan color to be too bad, and the construction is perfect, but the tint of green gives it that little bit of 'oomph'.
