How Often...

Post by IndianaSolo »

Hey Gang,

I'm just looking at the whole whipcracking theme. I must say it would be really nice to have one but I tend to want Indy items that would be more practical and not sit in my closet for too long, especially one that is a $500 leather weapon.
So I'm wondering, to those who have whips, how often do you use them and for what purposes?

Thanks Guys and keep crackin :D :whip:

I voted for 3-5 times a week, because I love to go out front and practice for a few hours (or maybe not THAT long), trying out the sidearm (my weakest crack) and wrapping my sister and cutting targets and things. I also practice my De Longis form, which is really improving quickly and in great bounds lately!!

I used to practice every day, but I don't always have time. I love to go out and put some time into practicing though - especially when I'm feeling upset. There's just something about knowing that you have the power to throw something at over 1400 feet per second that makes me relax ( ) and feel in control.

Hi,

McFly has right ;). It is incredible feel, when you got strap of leather in hand, and you can so easily crack it. Many peoples which first time has whip in hands, sad "I know why you are doing it", after them first crack. It's very pleasurable :).

About practice... you should mind that that is kind of sport. There is nothing practice with bows, or fencing(without muscle training ;) ), but people are making it. With whip is same thing. You got to spend 300-400 bucks, but you know... If you're keeping whip with good condition, it is lifetime spend :).

Kind Regards,
Karol

Generally every day...and with nylon, rain or shine. Somedays it may be only a couple of throws. I also live in FL, so snow and frigid temps are never a problem. Testing new ones is a big part of the frequency. Also the whip is not a weapon it is an agricultural tool.

With work and kids and wife, we barely get to use the whips. Once every couple of months or so we get out to the park and do a little cracking, but it's going to start getting too hot for that kind of thing here real soon, so if we don't get out and use them in May sometime, then we probably won't use them all summer.

I try to as often as possible but with the rain and wet weather it makes it hard sometimes. Think I'm going to be ordering a nylon whip (I still havn't finished the one I'm making and heck I need more whips  )

I use mine nearly everyday. I've gotten my goats trained to where as soon as they hear a crack they head for the barn. If I'm lazy and don't feel like using the whip, a good loud clap will work just the same!

Must be over a month since i used mine :x Which completely and utterly *****. Ground is always wet. After you get the first crack and realize you have just broken the sound barrier its rather addictive.

once you crack you cant stop.

as mr pringle wouldn't say

I pretty much get out into the back yard once a week to get in some practice, and I'll admit I use the very tips of bushes/leaves back there (got lots of 'em) as targets! There's one area which opens to woods with no houses to block the sound, so after getting my shoulder really loose, I'll finish off with a few thunderous cracks in that direction, working to get the loudest possible sound. Sometimes I've surprised myself!

I've got three whips--a Strain 8', a Bernardo 9', and a Duke 8' (that I always carry with me in my truck just in case).

I'd love to use mine a lot more, but where I live, there are no good places for cracking. I get it out of my system at summits and gatherings, though.
