Crystal Skull Leather
The US Wings limited edition Indy jacket jacket (made from the same skins as the Crystal Skull jacket) illustrates the point that you can’t really judge something by how it appears on screen. The leather in the pictures of the special edition Wings jackets just looks different from the stuff from the film that I’ve seen so far. And yet it is positively the same leather. I’ll also point out that I’ve got nothing against the Wings jackets. I think they look good, it’s just that the leather looks different from what’s on screen. I vote that anyone that uses the term “screen accurate” in the future should be taken out and shot. #

im torn on the limited wings...the leather is correct, the style is not (no studs, other stuff)...i cant speak for how dark or weathered it appears on film but the lack of studs is obvious(to us at least). Its quite a bit of change for a jacket you KNOW going in isnt accurate, and the fact its limited would prevent me from wanting to modify or weather it, and if i ever decided to get rid of it, i dont think the resale would be there without taking a couple hundred dollar hit...

Well, I for one am keeping mine so I'm not worried about resale value. I just got the sleeves brought up a bit for me and because it took an extra day, they threw in storm flap snaps for free. I gave them a couple photos showing the snaps, and presto, they're done. Jacket is now more "accurate" to the movie (notice I don't use the S.A. words, as I don't want to be shot). Besides, for most of us, S.A. is something the majority of us will never have, due to body shape, height, etc. As stated many times, what fits Harrison may most likely not fit me, or a majority of us.ortiz344 wrote:im torn on the limited wings...the leather is correct, the style is not (no studs, other stuff)...i cant speak for how dark or weathered it appears on film but the lack of studs is obvious(to us at least). As for my new US Wings, I'll post new photos shortly showing the changes. It fits me much better and the snaps look great on it.
If you think about it, what's more "rare" or "special" to people anyway? A jacket made by someone who made it for the movie, or the leather itself that was used to create the jacket? See where I'm coming from? Wested, US Wings, Tony, etc can all recreate what they made for the movies, but with different (new) leather, etc. as the original leather used for the "movie jackets" is long gone. It may be very similar, but it's not the same thing. This offering from US Wings is special for that very reason. The leather that was left over could very well have been used for belts, purses, shoes, etc. The fact of it's importance led Sarge into acquiring it for us and now we have 90 jackets, 90 INDY style jackets, from it, instead of leather seat cushions or whatever else this leather could have been turned into. To me, that's very special, perhaps more special, than a recreation of a jacket they made in the past.
Again, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Snaps can be added, sleeves can be brought up. It's your jacket to do with what you want. Or leave it as-is if you're happy with it. Either way, it's a piece of history... "screen accurate" patterns or not. I for one love this jacket and it's already going to have a place of honor in my collection for that very reason.
I wouldnt be buying it with the intents to resell it but, how many people here have sold indy jackets they never thought they would?Minnesota Jones wrote: Well, I for one am keeping mine so I'm not worried about resale value. I guess it all depends what people consider 'close enough', for example if the 'indy leather' was used on an A2 flightjacket(ya know, with the elastic cuffs) i wouldnt think it was special at all.
The snaps would make a world of difference to me, interested in pics as well.
This is a discussion board, so people can discus whatever they want. But I always scratch my head when the main point of one of my threads is largely not discussed in the thread . The point of the thread was that we finally have an example of a material that was used on screen and yet that material doesn’t look the same on the big screen (or little screen) as it does in real life or digital photos. Oh well.

I can see them looking different for a number of reasons. The photos from posters here usually use an on-camera flash which is very harsh and unnatural, or indoor available light, which is even less accurate and warm in tone if not color-corrected. Then, as someone mentioned, there's whatever was done to the movie jackets in terms of treatment/distressing. The fan jackets are brand new, so that could account for differences.Rundquist wrote:The point of the thread was that we finally have an example of a material that was used on screen and yet that material doesn’t look the same on the big screen (or little screen) as it does in real life or digital photos. Absolutely it's a discussion board, as long as everyone agrees with me... Kidding aside, you're right. How "real world" to "screen world" can very greatly. I think the best example of that is the ROTLA shirt. Stone colored on film, khaki in the "real world." Film it differently, other than the buttons, the same color material looks totally different in ToD and LC. One thing with this CS leather that's interesting. I run my hand down, then up, the color changes, sort of when you vacume a rug/carpet, the color seems to change when you move the vacume cleaner one way, then another, like it changes the facing direction of the fibers, if that makes any sense...Rundquist wrote:This is a discussion board, so people can discus whatever they want. I haven't had time to take pictures of my US Wings KOTCS special edition yet, although from the pictures I've seen so far mine does look lighter overall than the one Harrison Ford is wearing.
Having said that, while mine is pretty even in colour, it does have a few areas that are quite a bit darker so I'm assuming that, as has been said on other threads, the overall batch of leather varies in colour and it's quite possible Tony picked/matched darker bits specifically for some of the screen used jackets.
Someone did post a picture from the movie set that had a whole rack of jackets hanging together and there was quite a spread of colour there as well if I recall.
I for one am just glad to have a great jacket in a nice shade of distressed brown that has some link to the movie. I even got a compliment the other day from someone who said it looked nice and worn in! I thought it was funny, as to me it still seems like an obviously brand new pre-distressed jacket in need of some serious wearing in.

Perhaps leather is like felt in that variations occur from run to run? I see variation in color from the row of film jackets we all have seen pics of, or videos of. Looks as if not the same run was used for ALL of the jackets.
Plus, we don't know what Bernie did to the new jackets he recieved from Tony. They aged our liners, changing the original color. I would not be surprised if something similiar was done to the film jackets. Fedora
