Hey Gang,

Just got an email from Ron telling me that my hat has been shipped :D VERY EXCITE YES!!

I've also noticed on the other tread that other people are slowly starting to recieve their new Feds as well. So, I figured that since the cats are now popping out of the bag, it would be better off to start a new thread where we can show our new Fed IV's.
Please reply ONLY if you've gotten the hat or are commenting on others hats .... and of course ;0

And while you're at it, please tell us if the hat you got is the Regular FedIV or the Deluxe FedIV so folks (like me!) can compare.

Ok, to start I post here again the pics of my Fed IV.
The hat on the right is a Federation III. Both are Reg.

Strones, that is a fine lid indeed. The color does seem a different shade of brown, but it almost looks lighter than the fed III. I Like the new ribbon :D
Do show us some pics after it's been bashed if you can [-o< :D

Looks great! The color seems a lot more consistent with the color of the Fed Deluxe, just as promised.

Wear it in good health!

Here's a first bash attempt... Please note that I'm not an expert basher like you gurus. The new fed is more reddish brown (the old one it seems greenish to my eyes now!), more stiff, and more compact. If you have a small head, like me, this hat will look better, expecially the brim.

Wow, that looks great! I love how the slightly shorter crown makes the Fed IV instantly "Indy." And I think that creasing job looks great too! Congrats on a great hat!

Great pics, thanks! Is the Fed IV a snap brim?

Posted: Thu Apr 24, 2008 1:11 pm
by Indiana Strones
Yes, it's a snap brim, but a little less... snappy  than the Fed III.

Looks great. I'd like to see some straight on pics of the front to get a better idea of how straight the sides are.

Thanks

Now these are just shots of the Regular Fed 4?? Man, that hat looks really good. A big "step up" from the previous model. The color looks a heck of a lot better in my opinion. :D

Can't wait to see pics of the new Deluxe..... :)

Hi everyone, Ron here, this is my hat, it is a standard fed4 size 60.

Took 3 minutes and just a little steam to shape, a lot easier than the previous model. It is a bit too new for my liking but will soon wear it in...

Ron,

I can definitly tell that that was the original Fed IV, matches the pic of the hat on the site. From what I am seeing so far, :D :D :D I can't wait till mine comes in. Great Job and the timing couldn't be better.

Where are the pics of the Fed IV on their site. I looked, but I couldn't find them.

Mississippi, it's not a link on the front page yet, but you can find everything here: http://www.hatsdirect.com/federation/

Hey, Ron, is there any way you could post a side-by-side comparison pic of the new standard and deluxe Fed IV? It's be great to see how they look together and under the same light.

Hi Bink,

The color is virtually identical to the standard Fed it is hard to tell them apart, a simpple digital pic would show nothing but lighting / flash variation.

There will be slight variations in dye batches but from what I can see the both the Deluxe and the standard are taking the dye in the same way.

The hats I sent to Steve and Mark (via Steve) were Fed Deluxes. The finish on the new deluxe is much smoother than the previous model. Nice to touch.

I posted my hat pics because the color is better than the pics our web site.

BTW we have not linked the new Feds from our main site yet as we do not need additional demand till we have looked after all the back orders, so Indygear fans have been getting the inside running to some extent.

Cheers, Ron

when are they gonna make Ron a Vender on here?

Many thanks for your prompt reply this morning Ron!

I'm not going to change my order to the Deluxe, but could you comment on the difference between the Tawny Fawn and the Heritage Fawn? The Heritage Fawn looks much lighter on the website. Is that just a lighting difference?

Thanks, Ron, that's exactly what I wanted to know! How thin is the felt on the Deluxe FedIV? Would it make a good summer weight fedora, or is it as thick as the standard Fed III?

Posted: Thu Apr 24, 2008 11:06 pm
by mountainman
The felt is the same as before, the Deluxe is undergoing a further finishing step for the smoother finish. So the Deluxe will feel the same thickness but is a denser felt due to the finer fibres being used.

The Heritage Fawn is a different shade to the Tawny Fawn, pretty much as pictured. It is not as yellow. Both are good colors.

And I agree I should be noted as a vendor - how does that happen?

My fed reg arrived today. I had an email before, advising me that the hats run a little small. I decided to stick with my choice of 59 though. The hat I got today is very big on me! It goes over my ears! My 58 AB barely squeezes onto my head, and the 59 Fed goes over my ears! Hmmm

Inspecting the open crown it looks like it's been stretched out at the base - is it supposed to look like that?

Whiskeyman,

Something doesn't look quite right with the crown. It looks like a lightbulb, bulging out from the ribbon up. Are there any more pics?

That hat definitely looks strange. The crown is wider at the brim, narrows up through the ribbon, then bulges wide again as it rises toward the top. If you haven't yet, you should email Ron that picture.

Today I asked the Federation IV Deluxe, a size 59, and I'm impatient and very happy. :rolling:

Ron, how long it takes to reach Spain?

...Ron, all I can say is WoW! The new block+the new brim=fantastic!Having the new brim makes a lot of difference, in my opinion, no need to trim, no more trying to get the 'cupping' out of the brim from the flange.
Bravo! I can't wait to see someone's Moonstone Grey.

Whiskeyman,

I quite like the look of that shape. It's kind of got an inverse taper like the Raiders hat! I think you should keep it, unless it really is too bloody big. Maybe you could shrink it down a bit, but better safe than sorry. Pretty cool, though! Love it!

Noted the post from Whiskeyman, something does not look right with his hat which I cannot explain, please contact me via e-mail. I am back in the office tomorrow. As always we will look after the issue. The forum is not the place to discuss problems, but I am happy for them to be aired.

Our initial size advice was directed at previous Fed owners, especially those who had a neat fitting hat and to alert others we had changed our advice. Because we have a different set of blocks (from other hat makers) it is best to provide us with a head measurement if you have not worn Feds before.

I have had about 8 responses all from clients whose Fed 4's arrived safely, all very positive, two have followed up with orders for other colors. Hopefully we will see some more pics soon.

I imagine many more Fed 4's will be arriving daily now.

My Federation arrived today. I was scared to open the box, because one corner was crushed. Well, I opened it, and the hat was perfect. That is, until I attepted to bash it. I am not sure I like the bash. What do you think?
