i was wondering, 'since im thinking about nabbing a whip sometime in the next few months. i'd toyed with getting one of those swivel whips from western stage props or USW, but i used to have one like that and i just dont care for the swivel handle. i guess i might be able to shell out a max of $150, if i like it. anyway, are there any stores or manafacturers that i can go to to possibly inspect some whips before i buy(or maybe purchase from them?).. thanks.

The swivel can be easily disabled, so if the whip is ok in other aspects like length and cost, go ahead.

I'm not very impressed by nylon but then again, I haven't been able to handle (or even seen) a good one. Here in Finland whips in general aren't very common.

I'm not sure who he is, but there's a whipmaker who braids and sells awesome kangaroo blacksnakes on eBay. According to his contact info, he lives in Georgia. His prices seem very competitive as well. You might want to check it out.

Wow, what a coicidence. I've been tracking this guy for over a year. He's alias is ga-cracker, but real name is Stephen Blanton from Ball Ground, GA. I just won one his 8 foot, 16 plait target bullwhip LAST NIGHT.



His whips really, really look great. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any Indy style. He really gets into fancy braiding. But he generally sells everything he makes on eBay and doesn't do any custom work. I think I got a bargain. There is usually a flock of people that bid on his whips. But he is worth checking out, to see if he might make one for you. His email is:

Congrads on the new aquisition. Out of curiosity, is the thong on that whip braided in regular herringbone? It could just be that my eyes are acting strange, but the thong looks as though it's been braided in 4-plait Diamond. Any comment?

Ball Ground is just north of Atlanta. I remember his eBay remarks saying he just did whip making as a hobby and wasn't interested in it as a business. People change their minds though. Maybe a email of polite inquiry is in order.

ok, how do i diable the wivel without screwing my whip? 'cause i might jut go with that if i can easily do it.

Here's what I did to my old rawhide swivel handle with 3 strips of leather:



A couple drops of super glue should stop the swivel, if you really want to.

thanks. i hope to be making an order of indy gear(some kind of whip, a holster, belt with whip holder) in a few months, and i still think i may go with a swivel handle whip and do it kinda like yours and wrap the handle. thanks.
