P.S. How often should I apply the Pecards?

Can't wait for pics! Is it pretty heavy?

Apply Pecards to the fall before / after each time you use it (after a significant amount of time - up to you, but just don't do it if it's only been like 5 minutes), and to the rest of the whip whenever it gets dry, after it dries if it's been wet, and to remove the fall and put in another one.

Also, Pecard it before you mail it to me, because who knows how long shipping will take, and I don't want it dry when it gets here.

Congratulations Fritz, looking forward to seeing some photos of your new bullwhip.

How often you should put leather dressing on your whip really depends on how often it is getting used and the conditions its being used in. Treating them every 6 months is a general recommendation for whips in storage or for the casual whip cracker; but you just don’t want the leather to dry out. At the same time though you also don't want to over treat your whips either. They should not feel greasy or sticky after the dressing has had a chance to soak in and they have been wiped down to remove the excess. I also find that lighter more frequently coats work better then just a heavy coat once or twice a year.
It is best to keep your fall well greased at all times, after every practice session or two is a good rule of thumb.

Don’t treat the plaited handles or the knots on a whip. A very light wipe on, wipe off is ok just to give it a little shine but don’t let it absorbed into the leather. You want to keep these areas on your whip tight and secure, so that the overlay on the handle doesn’t start to shift, or that the knots start to come loose over time. The natural oils in your hands will usually be enough to keep the handle treated and you can use a little shoe polish on the knots from time to time, to polish them up if you like.

For all the advice. The reason I didn't include pics is because you all saw it before. It's the KOTCS 8' that Bernardo was selling on the dealer page. It's just as pretty as it was in those pics. Now, just to show off my ignorance a bit more...The cracker is the piece on the end that actually breaks the sound barrier. Is the fall the part the cracker is attached to? I'm sure there's a thread somewhere in the forum that goes over whip basics 101, or whips for dummies...

Thanks for the kind words Fritz, I'm really pleased you liked your whip. It has a nice weight to it, cracks loud and falls really straight, which means it would be well suited for targeting. Fot those who haven't seen it, here's a pic:



The popper/cracker is the thing that "cracks" or breaks the sound barrier. It is usually made of a thin material like twisted nylon. The fall is the strip of leather attached at the end of the thong. That's the part that you should dress more often.

It cracks very well! Although I did hit my own back twice! I should have taken pics of my back. Two diagonal lines!

That's a really beautiful whip. Congratulations. I have a 10' KotCS on order from Bernardo and I can't wait to get it. Well, I CAN wait to get it but it is about the same feeling waiting for my AB fedora to get here too. Oops - did I just mention a fedora in the whip forum???
