Sharpie on your ribbon?

I have been searching around the forum looking into redying my Akubra ribbon.
I saw that some folks colored their ribbons with a sharpie and had good results.
Does anyone have any pics?
Thanks,
Phil

Well, that's a new one on me. I suppose it would make ones ribbon darker for sure, but it seems really time consuming. First you have to remove the ribbon, mark it up and then re-attach it. Then you run the risk of the color from the Sharpie bleeding into the felt if the hat gets soaked either from rain or sweat. I know that the nylon ribbons won't take dye so maybe that is why they went with the creative route & a Sharpie. Although Sharpies are supposed to be permanent, they do eventually bleed when wet, & sweat can cause that to occur even quicker.
Personally I would go with a new ribbon from Todd's Costumes (they're a cotton/rayon and should take a dye job), and if you want it black black, run it through a simple Rit dye bath on the stove top. That would do the trick. Also you won't run the risk of the color bleeding into the felt & causing a funky stain around the crown/brim break.
This site will give you good instruction on dying a ribbon of the cotton/rayon blend.

If anyone else has some experience with this, please chime in.
Cheers!

You'd have to be crazy to use a sharpie!
Dye the ribbon if you must, but don't go taking some kind of marker to your hat.
Very nice hat, btw, Starks.

Shoot a PM to The Edge, he's done this years ago on his Akubra.

Stay away from the Sharpie!

I had a cheap hat that I used a touch up dye marker for wood trim. It did ok. I wouldn't do it on a good hat though.
